check this out

http://www.gtechpro.com/

click on the testdrive at the top. really cool.

the ss version is cheaper so i'm thinking about getting one.

you can use it as a shift light too.

i wonder how accurate the hp/trq ratings are?

I have heard they are extremely accurate in the quarter mile, but I haven't heard about hp/tq accuracy, but if you know what your car does in the quarter then what else do ya need?

I just looked at that test drive link.. so it came up with this data for the "test run"..
1/4mi 7.04 @ 169.3
0-60mph in 2.98
with 193hp and 185ftlbs ??

Was this on a bike? I was thinking about getting one of these a while back, but I decided to put the $300 toward longtubes and a prochamber (glad I did).

Easy, give it your gearing and tire height. If it can tell your mph, it can tell your RPM's

Oh, and the accuracy of these things largely depends on the parameters you give it being correct such as weight etc etc.

I started a thread about how these work a while ago, might show up in a search. The emissions dyno at work reads the rpm in a similar way off the battery on pre-95 cars (pre-obd2). Supposedly the gtech prompts you to "rev to 3000rpm now... rev to 5000rpm now..." and uses the voltage fluctation it sees to ESTIMATE your rpms. So yeah you need a working tach to set this up and no it doesn't require your rear/tranny gears/tire height to work.

my dad recently purchased one of these... he has yet to set up all the configurations but i skimmed through the manual, and its pretty high-tech. it kind of "listens" to your engine, for instance at a certain time and step during the set up you have to rev your 5.0 to the displayed rpm, also it measures lateral g's n $hit~ to set-up that there is like a digital ball or (weight inside the unit-a strain guage) and you have to move around the unit so that the ball lines up inside the displayed square. The actual unit is kind of smaller than i expected. it does have shift lights and lateral g lights for whenever your pushing some lat g's it lights up on whichever side the g's are on. All this mite sound crazy but...ugh its not
if you have any questions you can ask me ill go grab the manual and i'll see what i can find out.

oh yea the key for the unit to measure your torque and hp accurately is by dialing in the exact weight of your car, the manual says to weigh your car with the driver in it and about a half a tank of gas

I am real happy with the OG G-Tech, the 1/4 mile is accurate to within a few tenths and the new one is supposed to be even more accurate. Mine will measure HP but not give you the curve or shift points.

Measures lateral Gs as well as 0-60 and 60 to 0 distance!

I probably wont get the new one since I have the older one, but I do recommend getting one.

I think Pioneer now has a head unit that measures performance parameters as well...crazy!

if u dont live somewhere where u have a 1/4 mile length of road that u can go wot on then dont get it. its the biggest waste of money. i thouhgt having mine was cool and i ended up sellin it after a month. the only thing i ever used it for was to have it on at nite on the cruise nites cause the back round coler was a sweet blue and it made my car look imprtant. yah it works but it was a waste of money for me. co if u live in the city or a somewhat busy town dont get it cause ull never be able to use it
