I was browsing around and saw this really cool gear demo, I'm sure you've all seen it before. I was impressed anyway.

I'm interested in this Lucas Semi-Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid

Is it worth it?

Also, if not the ATF, then what about mixing the Oil Stabilizer with normal ATF (or even synthetic ATF)?

Anyway, just thought it might be an interesting discussion.

I love Lucas products, in every oil change, tranny fluid, rear end, or fuel injector cleaning, lucas goes in, every since the guys at the engine shop told me how good it was, been using it everytime, also, on my old 3.8 tbird, used to hear a little ticking sound, add lucas, tick went away, and got another 70k miles out of it.

I used it once. Didn't see any appreciable change in noise, so I didn't use it again.

I have only used the oil additive, but I like it. I plan to use else where too.

Rootus: thanks for the link, very interesting stuff.

So, my analysis:
Seems that they HURT in two ways:
1) They add more air to the blend, and thus increasing temperature slightly.
2) They add expense to the oil change.

but, again, they seem to HELP in a couple ways too:
1) By adding more air to the blend, it creates more of a "cushion/filler" for the gears, and thus eliminates noises (in some cases).
2) More evenly spreads synthetic oils through the gears.

This is also considering that the "additive" is used. I am very curious to know about the actual synth AFT fluid that lucas makes.

Side note: I wonder why synthetic is preferred when it seems fossil oils perform (spread) better (at least in the demo).

I use it never had a problem. Not as gummy as slick 50 that stuff is like tar. I know people that swear by it so i don't know. The fuel injector cleaner though is GREAT have used it on all my vehicles and have noticed a difference

As far as I'm concerned, the primary benefit to synthetic is that it doesn't break down nearly as fast as dino oil does. So you can go longer without changing it. Also, synthetic tends to be available in a wider variety of viscocities -- I don't see any dino oil at 0W-20 or 15W-50 .
