Hello, new to the site and figured id start it out with a question instead of pretending i was a proffesional how many of your STREET cars have a C4 Transmission? i was thinking of pulling my AOD and replacing it with a C4 something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7968884329&category=46104

im not worried about gas mileage, just wondering in your own PERSONAL experience not from what youve heard if you are enjoying the swap? was it a awesome addition to a street/track car or are you hating it? thanks

-Kevin

Welcome Kevin!

The C4 is a good transmission, much more durable than the AOD.It doesnt have the overdrive gear, thats the only thing your going to miss. Its alot lighter and easier to get in and out of the car also.

As far as for a street car, there ok.The strip is were they really shine, with a manual valve body you will be very consistant and lighting quik shifting.

Just make sure you get a good converter, that makes a huge diferance.

I drove my car on the steer a bit with the C4 and it never had any problems, just its not as fun as a stick.

But since you have an AOD,I would do the swap.

I think you'll miss the OD gear on the street. Try driving around with the OD locked out on your AOD, which gives you the same 1:1 ratio as the C4's drive/third. I had a '68 Mustang with a C4, and was always annoyed by the high revs on the freeway. Even with my Cannonball 3:00 rear end, the motor was really buzzing at 75mph. Steeper gearing will only increase it. The OD really does help the streetability of the small block Ford, and I would only ditch it if I had a special-purpose strip car, even with all the probs the AOD has.
