I wonder where she came up with that?

I bought my GT because I just can't see owning a v-6 stang. I love my car, my wife suggested getting a beater with the baby on the way but I don't want to drive anything else, I love driving the stang everyday. My parents bought an '07 after driving my car. They only got a six because they wanted a convertible and at the time they could not afford a gt vert. Now they keep saying they wish they had gotten a gt and drive my car every chance they get. Compared to their car mine rides better and bets better gas mileage, we don't even need to talk about performance. And the sound.

While I look to see if a mustang is a V-6 or V-8, I still wave at them. I don't expect every driver to like a GT or want one. As long as their driving a 'stang, it's all good!!

Plenty of great performance cars have V6's, and plenty of V6's make more HP than the stock V8 on the GT. The problem isn't a V6 per se, it's the underpowered, gas guzzling antiquated V6 that Ford uses in the Mustang that's the problem. It turns the stock V6 Mustang into a poser car.

This is definitely the biggest reason why I look down upon the V6 Mustang. It's the same V6 the Ranger has used since like '88 or something isn't it? If the base model Mustang had a more modern and potent V6 or even turbo 4 (return of the SVO?) then I would have no problem with it.

As far as sound goes V6s and turbocharged 4s can have a distinctive and seductive sound to them. Maybe not very "Mustang-like" but still pretty cool. I'd still go with the V8 though because that's what I prefer most.

Nothing beats the sound of an eight, the way it pastes my head into the headrest, the way it kicks me out of a turn, and how it frightens my passengers. I had a 2000 Mustang brand new at $13,000, I think 15 when all was done. It had the 3.8 and I haaaaaated the sound. Thats just me though. It sounded like a '61 Falcon. So I put duals on it and it sounded like a ricer. I told myself to not spend any more $$ on it. I test drove an '07 V6. The 4.0 gets lousy mileage and at my age, the insurance $ difference isn't that much so I was blessed enough to get a GT. Yes, the 4.0 engine is not very sophisticated having been plucked out of an Explorer (Exploder) or SportTrac. (correct me if I'm wrong). If such is the case, then the GT500 has still another truck engine of an F100 (or 250?) thrown in there topped with a supercharger. Other than cost, a GT500 was not an option for me.

My first driving experience was Driver Ed in a '73 Impala with a 400.

Out here, I don't see a lot of GTs. A lot of folks here don't know what's under the hood and don't care. (uh, its pretty and cheaper) Probably never popped open the hood and see there's enough space in there to put gramma's luggage. Well, if you can't tell the difference, get the one that's less expensive. A 24 valve V6 would have been a nice alternative.

There are some eights that sound lousy, for example a '59 Cadillac. It grunts like a pig.

Seems my first post didnt take for some reason so I can see why oh9mustang was so easily confused.

I never said I felt put down because I had a V6 but that I would not put someone down who did, especially if it were a convertible.

I have a 2007 Mustang GT with its little 283 that aint much bigger than a 6 banger and its ok. I got it cause I have always liked the Mustang since I owned a 71 with 351 quite a while back. I also have a Cougar XR7 with 351 and FireBird with a 455 and when I want to hear the sound and feel the torque of a powerful V8 which one do you think I drive?

The article says "To many Mustang lovers, a Mustang that isn't a Mustang GT with a big, romping 4.6-liter" I says "Please don't make me laugh..." but yes, I prefer 8 cylinders but just try not to be a snob about it. I would rather pick on someone my own size : )

Firebird 455s ran in the 15s and 16s they were the worst performance (cars) ever.
When you say which one should I drive, I would say what year are the Mustang and Cougar?
Your 2007 4.6 is a 281 cubic inch not some POS Chevy 283.
The stock 4.6 Mustang 05-2010 GT can outrun in any track , any 455 Fire (T) urd.
I raced a Bunch of those HO 455s . I couldn't spit far enough.

Oh by the way, Verts Suc, and V6 suc

V8s - its the power baby!

oh9 seems to want to tell me about my own cars - pure arrogance, assumptions and ignorance. You need to experience some variety in your life dude.

BTW: I read the article and thought it was quite amusing. I dont think its intent was to inspire rants about how anything but a Mustang GT is a POS.

The mustang is a 281, not 283.
The 455 firebirds were and are S L O W , The 400 or 350 would run circles around the 455.
So when you said , which one do you think I drive. I would guess the Mustang or Cougar.

Then you said
"oh9 seems to want to tell me about my own cars - pure arrogance, assumptions and ignorance. You need to experience some variety in your life dude. "

Were are the moderators when you need one.

Let me make it clear. You get one free shot at me, do it again and I will talk about your Mother and maybe some farm animal.

I'm guessing you own a Vert.
No problem, Go right ahead, I just think they suc, not just Mustang verts all verts. along with all 6s, and 4 doors. Ford only makes a 2 door mustang, but if they did make a 2 door taurus or Fusion , I would look at one of those. I guess they make the Focus but that is to much like a Honda.
These are just my opinions, I sure don't expect that anyone would go along with them, But at least allow me to have my opinion even if the entire world don't like it.

1975 Pontiac Firebird
Comments: In what had been a sea of pony car competitors, the Pontiac Firebird was all alone for 1975. The Camaro Z28, AMC Javelin, Plymouth Barracuda, and Dodge Challenger all were discontinued. The Ford Mustang was now offered on a Pinto platform and boasted a top engine offering of a 105 bhp 2.8 liter V6! The 1975 Firebird featured a new front end (it's third in three years) and a much improved rear window, which greatly improved visibility. The instrument panel stayed the same, but the old 160 mph speedometer was replaced by a new 100 mph unit, to better reflect the new times. The base 400 cid V8 Trans Am engine put out a pitiful 185 bhp, but still cranked out 310 lb-ft of torque. But the big news was what was lost: No Super Duty 455 engine, no Turbo-Hydramatic 400 automatic transmission, no Muncie Four-Speed Manual Transmission, no true dual exhausts. The main culprit: the new Federally mandated Catalytic Converters. The 455 V8 was re-introduced mid-year in "H.O." guise, but it was just the 455 engine from the Bonneville and produced only 200 bhp.

Production: Formula: Trans Am: 27,274
Engines: 350 V8 155bhp. 400 V8 185 bhp, 310 lb-ft. 455 V8 200 bhp @ 3800 rpm, 330 lb-ft @ 2000 rpm. 455 (HO) V8 200 bhp.
Performance: 455/200: 1/4 mile in 16.1 seconds @ 89 mph

I do, sort of. My wife has a mustang Vert V6. I don't drive it. I just have to wash it and change the oil and rotate the tires.

Everytime I see a pissing contest, it's always the same people trolling it up. The V6 has it's place. Whether you like it or not. And it far outsells the V8's, whether you like it or not. The auto enthusiast group is but a small percentage of the much larger car buying group. To think anything else, well....I hate to say it.

The V6 has it's place. It's a cheaper, more economical (yes more MPG) car than the GT. I have had, and still have, both a v6 and a v8. I can't drive 2 cars at once, and my wife doesn't want a v8, and I don't see anyone paying for a GT (both the car and ongoing insurance) if that isn't what the person wants.

oh9:

The 81 z28 had 175hp and weighted 3222-3445 lbs (closer to 3400 for z28)
The 81 stang had 120hp and weighted 2601-2692 lbs

Factor in the weight next time since you're talking performance numbers.

I dont hate on people who buy v6's like it has been said, its peoples preference what they buy, i bought a gt, they bought a v6, its their choice. I wanted a GT no matter what and surprisingly when I called insurance they asked what car I told them 06 Mustang, they said coupe or vert i said coupe, they gave quote, I told them wait its a GT its a V8 make sure thats in there, they told me, It doesnt matter, it doesnt cost more for a V8 over a V6 its just the bodystyle that matters. So those who use the "I bought a v6 instead of a v8 cause of insurance" thats just bunk.

I have NEVER heard that from ANY insurance company. Period. What insurance do you have, assuming it's real? Mine was going to be about a $50ish/month difference. I'm 26 and married.

I hate on anyone who has less than four cams, Thats Right, I said it.

anywho, the number of cylinders isnt a "hate focus" for me.

In reality, I dont hate the car at all. Its just some of the drivers are very bothersome individuals. Such as the ones who put on cold air and a "chip" and consider it to be the fastest thing on the road (and put on cobra eblems over the pony, to make it a cony). I suppose that could be said about any car, but its in the same family, so its more personal. Much like seeing a ricer mustang , its like that family member that smells but you dont have the heart to tell him.

and before someone goes on a rant about how v6's can be built to be fast, all i have to say is *cough*rangermotor*cough*. And i do realize that they can be, but really dont see the point.

Yeah im a Cyl Snob...v6's arent even the same car other than body panels. Different suspension....Rear Axels Sway bars etc. v6 is a Car....v8 is a Sports car

GT = Grand Touring Enuff said.

For me stock displacement ford engines aren't enough. Thats why i have a 351 based 383 stroker in my 95 Mustang.

And for you Modular guys.....I'm almost done building a 5.4 32v 4 Cam motor for a customers 98 Lincoln Mark 8.

Bottom line is 4.0 liters is small......4.6 is a lil more piss in the bucket. 5.4+/5.8+ is where its at!!!

These cars are economical sports cars.....When they cannot do what they are intended they are useless to me as a 4.0 liter F350 truck.

Cylinder snob i am!!!

some people like to pick on some people because of what some people think some people think.
That don't make sense, well I would say that is just some people.
If you want to have a V6 go ahead, If you want to have a vert, go ahead, If you like Honda's, well just kill yourself, but go ahead.
The Mustang GT is a very good Mustang and a platform to build a Mustang that You like. A Mustang V6 is a Woman’s Mustang, which is not bad, just Not the Mustang I want to have. I’m not much for flowers either. Or watching soap operas.

It is Geico, trust me it's real, I have no reason to lie, I am 20, un-married, have a 96 Explorer and my 06 GT on the same policy, my name only with one accident on my record, I pay 240 a month for full coverage for the GT and liability on the Explorer. The exact words from the lady were "Sir it doesnt matter if it is a V8 or V6 there is no option for the two motors in my system, just if it is a coupe or convertible."
