You'll need to get some 2 part panel adhesive such as fusor or SEM from a automotive paint supply shop.

1Bad67 thanks. It would appear then that I will paint car with fenders on as the rocker covers will attach to them as well. ?? I had hoped to paint in pieces. I guess I could paint in pieces and attach rocker covers after painting if I'm careful.

one could also figure out a way to have a graceful seam in the rocker cladding. this would allow the fender to be removed for paint, damage down the road...etc

just a thought

I generally don't find a way to do anything graceful, though I will try to find a way to mount this so it can be removed later. I've got SEM, but was hoping for a less permanent mount.

How about the front valances? How does the fiberglass mount to the fenders on the Eleanor cars?

the way i did them on my car was i rivited the fender flairs side exhaust skirts and scoops teh ground off most of the head of the riviets not all other wise tehy just fall of then justudes fiberglass filler over them this si also how the movie cars

Most people are blending in the seams like Unique is doing on the GT 500E. With the way these fiberglass parts fit, it would take a lot of work to get every thing to line up and fit right like the movie car. The upper valance just bolts into the stock headlight bucket locations. If you don't want to blend the lower valance, if you use the support bracket and bolt it underneath, a couple screws in the lip of the fenders might be enough to hold. On the exhaust skirts, you could bond & blend up to the edge of the doors and leave a seam on the fenders and screw the end into the lip of the fender.

Thanks. I came to the same conclusions after staring at the car a few hours today. I'm only using a few Eleanor pieces (rocker covers and lower valance), so this one's even a bit tougher. I need to cut the lower valance and find a way to attach it to the fenders.

Foose did this on the Overhaulin' episode a couple of weeks back....I think the episode was called "ugly horse".

If you watch closely, they actually had the complete Eleanor nose with a Shelby hood. In the end the only piece they ended up using was the lower valence.

I just finished up a GT500E Convertible, I bonded and Riveted all the Side skirts, wheel wells, frt valance, bolted the upper nose cone, then blended all the the fiberglass except for the upper nose panel. I also trimed off the lower parts of the frt of the fenders after I attached the valance. Cracks may come though in the areas between the exhaust skirts and lower quarter behind the door. This is the only way to assemble the parts that look normal. YOu could seem it in all the places the parts come together and insure it wouldn't crack, but it wouldn't look right. Yes I assemble the frt fender & all the fiberglass before I painted. I did however, Jam paint the back sides of the fenders & the door post before I assembled. Big hassle keeping over spray off the door post while priming, body working, painting. I also assembled the doors with the new hinges before painting, to do the fiberglassing on the doors, (To match the scoops). then removed the doors for paining. Overall, Toughest restoration I've done. But now that I know the different ways you have to do all the steps it shouldn't be as bad on all the rest. I'm trying to upload pics but the site won't accept them for some reason. I'll keep trying. Good Luck.
