I have been racing with the Philly Region SCCA for the last year or so and I hafta say, it's been a blast! My only regret is being one of the only few Stangs there. I want to see if I can turn more people with Mustangs on to this. If your not familiar with auto cross, just imagine a mini track, setup in a parking lot or airstrip using cones with tight turns, both increasing and decreasing radius, slaloms, and tons of gates. These are 100% legal SCCA sanctioned events where all cars of any class can be competive with each other. Driver skill plays a large portion on this type of racing.

Next event in the area (aside from Ripken Stadium in Maryland on the 22nd) is at Warminster Community Park in Warminster, PA at the old Naval Test Airstrip on November 5th. This is actually the last event of the Summer Series. Entry is free and $35 to race. Normally you can get 4 60 second or so runs in but sometimes 5 if things run smoothly.

I encorage anyone interested to seriously check this out. Like I said its alot of fun. Let me know if you are interested by replying to this post, and maybe we can meet at a common area before heading there. Check out their website for more information.

I checked out the SCCA site per your message and actually ran in my first autocross on Sunday Nov 5.

What a Blast!!!

I was fortunate because the SCCA had a Novice school on Friday night and Saturday. The autox school was amazing, I had my car on the skidpad, through slaloms, and all kinds of increasing and decreasing radius turns. I pushed the car to the limit to find the breaking points when I finally lost traction in the different maneuvers they taught us. They had trainers for us at the school. My trainer was a national autocross champion in a Z06 Vette, he was able to help me really get the most out of my car. The Philly chapter is really helpful to new autox drivers.

I participated as a Novice in the regional autocross on Sunday. The instructors are there to ride with any of the participants and help out by sharing their own knowledge and experience. The whole event was just fantatsic. I actually learned much more about my car's handling and getting the most out of it. Everyone of the maneuvers I practiced also have some daily driving application.

I have never had so much fun in my Cobra!

Thanks for posting the information. I look forward to getting really active in the spring.

I'm going to have to change my Avatar after this weekend.

I'd love to do that, but Philly is a little too far. I think the Harrisburg region does something like that, but I never hear about their events until it's too late.

I may try to hit Philly and Northern NJ next year. I don't usually bring the
Saleen, I've been auto-x'ing the Daytona the last couple of times.

I would love to have gone to some of these events as we were setting up the cobra for open track racing and planned on running it next year and this would've been great practice...unfortunately I blew the motor, so gotta wait till next year now...hoping to schedule some of my leave time around events in the area.
