narrow band vs wide band. narrow band seeks a certain range of numbers, then maxes the gague or bottoms the gague, think binary with on or off only

wideband will report exact readings and certain voltage for each number, thus showing exactly whats going on.

Narrow band A/F ratio gauges are typically spliced into a stock O2 sensor wire; not good and they do not provide any useful numbers regarding your vehicle's A/F ratio. They are set to operate within a narrow range of 14.7, the stoichiometric point for gasoline engines at which all fuel is completely combusted. Wide-band A/F ratio dataloggers/gauges on the other hand are stand-alone units that also provide actual useful (digital)information, specifically at WOT and at rpm ranges which take the A/F ratio outside the typical stoich range.

I have a appt at a local tune shop on thursday...they are gonna throw it on the dyno and do some testing...hopefully its just a chip problem.

I think this would be your best bet. That way you know for sure what your A/F mixture is. Also, check under the hood for any loose vacuum lines.

+1 on the dyno runs. The chips that come with the supercharger kits are pure junk cause they are for mustangs within a specific year range, not made for YOUR mustang. All vortech does is up the fuel so you run rich, so you dont get pinging. Dont know about procharger, but I figure they do the same thing.

Again thanks for all of the help...and please bear with me, like i said before i've been a VW guy for a long time...getting back into a RWD car that is alot bigger is a big change for me

I now understand the wideband vs. narrowband terminology...makes perfect sense.

I was going to have the stealership i bought the car from go in and tinker with the car, but realized they don't have any of the proper equipment to actually tune the car....its gonna cost me some $$$ to do it, but i think its going to be worth it.

If the car has 4.10's in it...how much would it cost to swap with 3.73's? I drive on the highway a good bit, and dont want to kill my gas mileage.

Ok one last question for now...hypotheticaly speaking, if my car was tuned properly with a cat back exhaust, procharger p-1sc supercharger...and no clue whatelse...what kind of numbers do you think i'll see on the dyno? I'll put up some #'s when i get back from the shop, but just kinda curious what i might see.

I'd venture to say at a minimum of 365 to 375. Remember that a safe tune is alot more important that the tuner trying to squeeze every last bit of horsepower out. If it's your daily driver, you want reliability.

Thats my big thing RELIABILITY! I'll be working with a shop that specializes in mustangs out here in springfield, va...so i feel comfortable that they will properly tune the car. I know i have to be careful, the car is AODE (thats the terminology for auto, right )

it is the correct terminoligy but also refered to as teh 4R70W (actual name) . Also to swap to 3.73's the gears are about 180 and the install averages 200-300 bucks.........

y'all where right...car wasnt tuned. I ended up having to take the car back to the dealear for a fraided serpentine belt, damn belt was about to snap...turns out the supercharger idler pulley was messed up and tore up the belt.

As for the tune, it should be tuned tomorrow...but the shop told me it definatly wasnt tuned, timing is at 10 degrees.

Oh and the shop was telling me something about a sct setting that would cause a dealer not to be able to flash the computer back to stock...what does that mean

yeah thats about how my gauge goes...except even during acceleration it was bouncing all over....hopefully the tune will fix that....and yes its very annoying, especially at night.

You definately have 4.10s if you are turning 2700 at 70.
