SOMEBODY please make sense of the alphabet Cams!!

Is there a GOOD way to decipher WHICH Camshaft will work with any given situation ??

My application is an local street driver Vert (limited strip usage), ported lower, 65mm TB, ported E7s (maybe GT40Ps later), long tubes, 73mm MAF, 5speed, 3.55s, 1.7 RRs.

I WANT a Lopey idle, strong Mid-Upper range HP/Torque.... I don't give a crap about MPG, but need it to be streetable.

Which Can do you "experts" suggest I stuff in ??

You wan't best all-around power, B303 cams is sweet.A little more mid range pulling power, E303.Bad Boy 3500rpm+ cam, X303.F303 is more of a supercharger/nitrous cam.Z303 is too big for a 302 with thous heads.

The E cam probally has the widest powerband. You will hear it in the idle, but will have good power all the way up. The B will be stronger top end but weaker bottom end, and will lope real hard due to it's narrow LSA. The F cam, it's hard to say, it's suposed to be more agressive but I have heard that cam and it doesn't seem as hard as my B cam. Z and X are some pretty harsh cams, I am sure you would loose some bottom end.

The E is probably your best choice....and like 90mustangGT already said, the B will bull harder at high RPMS and sound nastier. For some reason some people have trouble getting the E cam to idle.

Because it sucks too much vacuum at idle. The cure is simple, drill a hole in the TB's butterfly plate (if one isn't present, if so then drill slightly larger). The E will prob be your best bet, it still has good torque but pulls hard until its limit. Good all-around cam for a good breathing engine.

Go with the Trickflow Stage 1. Idle sounds great, nice lope, will shred the tires off the line, and pulls great at 3500+, and I have stock unported heads, the cam made a huge difference. It's cheaper too.

I have the B303 with 100% stone stock heads and 1.72:1 roller rockers. It has lope and it pulls like freight train from about 3500 rpm up to about 6000. I run 3.73 gears and 275/50 regular radial tires. I get 18+ mpg on the highway. I walked away from a guy with an E303 in his car on the highway like he was sitting still from a 65 mph start speed. We both downshifted...I blew him away. He was like 20 car lengths back when I let off and he never let off. I slowed down to 70 mph and let cruise control do the throttle and he went by me at well over 100 mph. He was not very happy that I walked him so bad. He doesn't like me anyway, so it made him more angry. LOL

B303 will give you what you want.

I have the e cam, mainly because when I go back to NJ I have to run it through the snuffer. at first I had trouble with the idle, played with it a bunch of times to finally get a really good idle. You will only get a messed up idle at first start up when the car is in closed loop (right)?? car pulls like a champ from 3000 and up. not to sure how it will idle after I install my pulleys and electric fan but I will work it out.

Just so you know where you are starting from....you can buy the B303 for $165 brand new in a box from Summit or Jegs. I've seen it in MNM&FF for as little as $150.

Used roller cams are A-OK as long as long you use new roller lifters.

New cam-used roller lifters = OK
New cam-new roller lifters = OK
Used cam-new roller lifters = OK
Used cam-used roller lifters = NOT OK

another vote for the e-cam, i really like it, i had the idle problem, but when i got it dyno tuned it fixed it, now it idles like if it was a stock cam, with a really nice lope to it, sounds really bad ass with lt, o/r h pipe and 2 chamber flows, also pulls like a bitch, but that could also be the 8 lbs of boost
