My car has the stock Mach 460 system in it and I believe the guy that owned the car before me put in new Pioneer speakers. When I have the music up loud it hits really hard and then it will cut out for like 10 - 20 seconds. I'm thinking I need a capacitor. But I am also thinking of replaces the whole system. What do you recommend?

is there a protection LED on the amp? my guess is it might be getting too hot, and shutting down?

I dunno. Where can I check that? Do I just look on the amps and there will be a LED light on?

I agree sounds like a protection circuit is tripping

The previous owner made a serious error in replacing just the speaker drivers. The Mach speakers are 6 ohm and most aftermarket speakers are 4 ohm. The lower impedance would put a hurting on your amp especially when cranked up loud. Get a new amp or put those stock speakers back in your car.

impedance is too low for your stock amps.

6 ohms? wtf?! that would definately account for it.
