so i dont know if many of u remember my last post about the battery draining but it just took a step worse. so the battery did this once before and i dont know why i didnt mention it but i forgot the battery started to smell of sulfer and then you could hear it almost boiling, well then that one died completly. so today it started to smell with my new battery and i thought nothing of it becuase i figured i would fix it later. well after i got to my house my car had been sitting for a while then i hear a very loud BANG i run outside to find that the caps on the battery had poped off and needless to say taht ones done for. My question is what would be causing the batteries to do this why do they keep over heating or exploding? oh and also a little update on my car the other day my hood flew up while i was driving luckly i was going slow so it only ruined the hinges and the hood is salvagable but anyways if anyone can tell me what would be causing my battery to smell and sizzle it would be great thank you guys

Check your voltage regulator. Sounds like it's overcharging.

Voltage with engine revved to 2500rpm should not exceede 15V

Definately sounds like a voltage issue, overcharging. Bubbling is a sign of overcharging.

If its draining and blowing up , I would look for a postive wire that's grounding out on the body. or in the vicinity of the exhaust\motor mounts.

The Sulpher smell is H2S, the explosion is from hydrogen build up. Both are from charging/overcharging. The battery acid will eat right through sheet metal and make a mess of your engine compartment components. Clean up any spilled or splattered battery acid with 5% sodium bicabonate solution (1/2 cup baking soda in a gallon of water). Remove the battery first to prevent electrocution. Be carefull not to get the acid on you, concentrated sulphuric acid is very dangerous.
