battery drainage?

What would cause your battery to drain after your car sits for a few days. Every time my car sits for like 3,4 days I go to start it and its dead. I have to jump it a few times then it will start right up again. Could it be the alternator? My current battery is about 5 months old so I dont think it would be the battery and it also did it with my old battery.

Check your terminals, and your alternator..Or, you might have a short somewhere

I have the same problem the amps for the mach 460 don' t shut off. Might not be your problem but it is an idea.

I dont have the 460 system, thanks though. anyone else have any ideas? I briefly checked the connections, everything looks a-ok.

my vote is the alternator. That doesn't sound normal...

It's NOT your alternator! Something is draining your battery as it sits. It could be an alarm system (if equipped). Try the attached procedure to locate the cause of the drain:

Thanks man, I was leaning towards that but the only thing I have hooked up are some gauges which have been there for years. hopefully I found out what it is, new alternators are pretty exspensive.

I know I have probably overkilled this picture, but my car does the same thing and I couldn't track down what was draining it. So, I hooked up this switch:

so that I could just turn the battery off if I plan to park it for more than 2-3 days. Since I've done this, it has sat for a month and cranked right up yesterday. Before I put the switch in, it would die in 3-4 days.

I've post this before. 1999 up Ford cars & trucks, when the weather changes, there is a small pin switch on the door latches and over time the grease that it comes packed wth gets hard and wont allow the pin in the switch retract, very common problem when the weather starts to turn cold. there is an improved switch or you could try to remove it and clean away the old grease.
