battery indicator

Have you guys ever had your battery drained down enough to where the indicator goes red but upon recharging the battery to full power the battery indicator still stays red. The voltage is almost 14 volts and it took 6 hrs to recharge to full power but i would have thought the indicator would have been back to green after the charge......any opinions welcomed....thanks
