I just did a 3G swap on my 93 Gt. everything went fine, read the volts with the multimeter. 12 when car is off 14 when its on and lights are on at idle. I took the car out for a drive and the battery light came on after a few moments. The car seems to be running well, and when on is still puttin out 14v when its at idle. i never really had an electrical problems before. Anyone know whats going on or seen this before, could i be overcharging the battery? also how cna i pull the codes to see what happened?

Poor connection of the stator plug (the small white plug)

Make sure you have a good connection there. If it's loose, the batt light comes on

Well that answers a question I have had for quite a while. My 88 does that. The previous owner swapped the alt. Thanks for the info 5L5.

is it at the actual plug itself where it goes into the alt or is the bad connection bad where i soldiered the wire from the 3G alt to the white wire in the wiring harness? If it is a bad connection at the alt how can you tell if the alt itself is bad or the spaid connector?

You can check voltage at the s terminal(with car running) and you can check your connection by checking voltage with sharp probe before and after connection(car running) and using an ohmmeter(not running). Also make sure the I terminal wire(green/red) is not shorted to ground. Use ohmmeter with car off.
