On the factory battery in my 01 gt, what does the little window thing indicate?

It was nice out today so I took my car out of storage(was only in for a little over a month without being started) before starting it I popped the hood to check all the fluids real quick. The little window thing on my battery had a red ball in it. What color is it usually? What does this mean?

The car started right up on the first try and has every time since. I took it to work and put it on the battery tester and it came up good battery. The red ball just caught my eye...and doesn't seem right.

Also, somebody told me that I could get the battery replaced under warranty. I don't believe that, but it is still under warranty and worth it I guess if it is true.

Yeah. Green=good, Red=bad. Get it replaced. It should be a warranty thing as long as it has not been more than three years since you bought the car. After three years you're on your own. It is time to replace it anyway if it is an '01.

I have a new battery that is the same. That window is not accurate. The battery tester is the way to go. Can't say it wont quit next week but I would leave it alone for now.

Mine went red just after Christmas. Wasn't a problem until it got really cold and wouldn't start. Now the whole top is red! (Optima Red, for the slow ones).
