I have an 84 GLX 5.0 convertible with NWC T-5. The car hasn't run for 10 years and I am just starting to try to get it back in shape. I have a couple of questions and will probably show my total ignorance about this stuff, but here goes.

1. It currently has the flywheel for a 10" clutch. Can I upgrade to the 10.5 flywheel and use the exisiting bell housing? If so would it then require a different starter?

2. It has the non-roller 5.0 with 4v carb. Can I get a later model roller engine and still go with the existing intake and carb setup I have? Is a new intake worth the money with stock heads?

3. Any suggestions on what emission control stuff to replace and what to just get rid of entirely?

4. Any other really needed upgrades? I am not trying to build a monster, just a fun little street ride on the low cost side.

I am already planning on
- upgrading to 11" front disk with 73mm calipers.
- Subframe connectors, rear shock tower brace, strut tower brace, lower chassis brace
- shock & struts

Any and all advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance

you can use the clutch and keep your bellhousing and starter.

you should be able to keep the intake. they sell hydraulic roller conversions for pretty cheap also. i would keep the stock intake, especially if you have stock e6 heads still.

not familiar with the emissions on those cars. are you tested or not?

get a set of gears and a nice shifter.

if your looking to go 11" front brakes with a 5-lug i have that exact setup removed from my car with everything. pm me. its just been sitting in the back of our car since removed.

Thanks for the info on the bell housing.

I was planning on buying a rebuilt late eighties long block rather than have mine rebuilt. I have heard the 84 engine is not worth much. I am assuming it should come with the stock heads for a late eighty's 5.0.

No sniffer tests anywhere here in OK that I am aware of, but I may have to move to Houston in the next two years so I wanted to keep it somewhat close compliance.

I am staying with the 4 lug rotors. I know it is limiting as far as wheels go, but I like the things for some reason.

Ever consider a blow-proof bell housing? They are not just for high horsepower beasts. I will install one at the point where my tranny or engine comes out. But until then it will always be in the back of my mind. I really like having feet to walk on.
