BEST maf setup for most TORQUE...opinions?

Hi again kids...Still doing bolt ons on my newly aquired 98. Interested to hear opinions on the best MAF setup (if TBs are helpful, include them too). I am REALLY not interested in looks, expensive trendy kits, or unnecessary pieces/accesories. I am interested in biggest TORQUE and secondarily, HP gains.

The 4V in it is stock with a pair of Delta 40s w/catted H crossover, 3:73s, and a K&N element w/no snorkle.

You guys have been SOOOO helpful since I've been here. I'm a geezer and you guys are very gentle with me.

Thanks much in advance for sharing any secrets about MAF management.

Get the pipe too. Looks good and is better flow.

It doesn't really matter what MAF you get, as long as you get a tune. A MAF shouldn't really be considered a "bolt-on" because it will probably screw up your A/F ratio without a tune. Personally, I have a C&L MAF with a SuperChips SCT flash.

Thanks man. I needed to know that. What about torque/hp gains with a MAF and tune. What about larger TBs?

I'd expect around 10-15 HP/TQ with the combination. A larger TB won't make a difference on a naturally aspirated Cobra.

If I were you I'd skip the MAF for now, get some 4.10 or 4.30 gears...The stock MAF is good enough for a realitively stock car...And as was said, throttle bodies are wastes of money on these cars N/A...

I agree a stock cobra is in need of other things before that MAF....that 10-15 hp he is talking about is mostly all from the tune....MAF and TB should be the last items on your list and probably aren't even needed unless you are planning on some sort of forced induction.

I'm making 300 rwtq through BBK LT headers, Dr. Gas X-pipe, Steeda pulleys, and the full 95mm WMS setup with Pro-M MAF.

Yeah, I figured on needing headers to really get any torque gains...how much is a header install on a DOHC?

Don't really feel the need for 4:30s as drag racing is secondary to me. I'm looking for as much bolt on torque as I can get for coming out of those corners . I'd actually like to widen the torque range also. Ah well, someday a KB blower, but not any day soon

And who makes GOOD, usable NON gold plated headers?

BBK, Hooker, Kooks, SHM. Do *NOT* buy MAC longtube headers.

As was said before, an aftermarket MAF isn't neccessary until you basically peg it or need to change injectors.

the best headers out are the jdm/kooks long tubes. They provide great power and have the "slip on" collector that cuts install time down to nothing....so simple that and old man like you might be able to do it....lol....just kidding it is really easy though....the actual headers are expensive but cheaper than crappy headers and an install fee....just food for thought....you want torque? you get that through gearing....long tubes and cams

The 4v's really do kinda suck for torque. LT headers will help - I had BBK's on my 98 and loved them. They're a pretty time consuming install though. Best way to increase torque? Nitrous , turbo, or Roots/twinscrew SC.
As stated elsewhere above, MAF's can be a huge headache if you dont reearch all there is to know about them - its all in the tune. Changing out the MAF means you will now have to re-enter the Flow-data of the new MAF into your EEC or you WILL have driveability problems. Most MAF's will tend to lean out the A/F - which is why you'll gain some HP - but thats not the recommended way of changing our A/F's!
Gears are a good easy way of making use of our power bands.
