Better bass w/o resorting to thumping subwoofer

Thumping bass isnt for any particular kind of music, "bass" in the general term can just be considered all the frequencies your ears can hear between 20-500 Hz. In order to produce frequencies below 45-50 range, you will need a subwoofer, regular door speakers normally cant touch anything under 50 Hz. However, you dont need a huge sealed box with 2 12 inch subs and all that, just check something like this out...

Thats the sub and the amp, all in one, all you need to do is run an 8 gauge from the battery to the trunk, and hook it up to your head unit. This unit will put out something like 200 watts rms, which is okay, but to tell you the truth, getting good sound pressure, and bass in a vert is nearly impossible.

I have over 1000 watts rms between my two amps, and I have enough bass for my taste, but I had the exact same setup in my old saturn coupe (I know I know, saturns are chick cars thats why I sold it) and it had a lot more bass, and a lot more sound pressure.

An easy approach to getting more bass would be to dynamat the doors, and add in a nice set of 2 or 3 way speakers in the front and the back. I dont know if you have stock speakers now or not (I hope not). If you have aftermarket speakers already and dont want to get new ones, then I suggest finding out what they are capable of (in terms of watts rms) and get a suitable 4 channel amp to power the speakers, instead of the head unit. That will give you more bass, and more volume. ...Thats the only thing I dislike about my vert, I have to turn it up so loud just to hear the words and the music at 50 mph with the top down. i have the basslink and im fairly pleased with it. I think ive blown 2 out (maybe it was one?? I dunno.. i forget these things), but as long as you don't keep it on full blast all the time it will last you a real long time and provide bass that isnt obnoxious.

im not sure what will fit, but all i have is a little 8" fosgate in a box that i picked up for $20 an amp i got for free and i paid $20 for the wiring kit. i dont really want it to thump, i just want to hear some bass.

Try adding some dynamat to the doors, and around the rear speakers. Getting a good seal between the speakers and the rest of the interior will help bass and clarity. This is especially important on the doors. It can't be done for the rear speakers since they are held in brackets, but the dynamat will help with vibrations and noise and allow you to hear more music.
