Anyone replaced the factory dome light on a sunroof car. It's junk and I want a map/multi etc. light. Such a small opening. Hoping to find something at a yard that would work. Know anything? Thanks

Do you have an 87-88'ish car? If so, just put bulbs into the sockets for your courtesy lights under the dash. There are two--one at the left most side of the dash and one under the centre of the glovebox on the passenger side. They take the same bulb as the license plate illumination lights. Just did this on my 88 (sunroof car) this past weekend--sure nice to be able to see inside the car at night!

i havent done it yet but I am putting in a 93 coupe dome light in place of my dome light. I already got the 93 off of ebay. it has the dome light and a light and switch on both the right and left of the main center dome light.

Joe,

Have fun installing that dome light! I had one also, and I had to rig up the mounting screws and cut some on the light since the 93 had a different mounting bracket welded to the roof. It never quite fit straight. Get a wiring harness from a 93 for the plug and the extra hot wire for the map lights.

I got a nice black light from a 94. It is smaller than the 93 and fit perfectly in the stock headliner hole. The 94 also had a plastic mounting setup that mounted it to the headliner, not screwed to the metal roof bracket.

Don't know if the 94+ would work in a sunroof car, but it probably would.

well dammit thomas!!! lol

See, I know by now I should just ask you if you have tried "______" before I do it! lol

for having a "244,000 mile stocker" you seem to have done more to your lx than I have to my coupe, and I have damn near changed everything out......oh well, i guess Ill get a 94 then and sell this one. thanks for saving me the trouble, because you know I would have posted on here or westside asking something when I got stuck.

if it fits better than the 93, then I am all for it. did you get it at the same place you sent me for the alternator???

Actually I got it at Pick a Part for like $5, but I bet Williams would have one. I know they had a 2002 with a black interior in their last rack on the left, space A011 I think?

There are a few parts I want from it, so I might go by there next week.

But you can use the 93, it will just require some work. I used my old 93 one for about 2 years before the black conversion.

Thomas you make me laugh bro. How many times have you walked through there to remember which space it was in?? lol

Honestly I called ahead and asked them to pull it so I never actually walked the lot. Email me before you go by there and if I haven't returned my dist. and alt. for my core by then, maybe I could have you pick one up for me and then we could get together.

Thanks for the suggestions. This is a 93 car and the dome light is at the front almost to the windshield with a 2.5x1.5 inch opening. I will look at the 94 for ideas.

Here's what I've been wanting to do since i bought my car. Take a rear view mirror off some convertible (cavalier or something) that has the two built in lights on it. Then wire that up. It would look super clean, and stock!
