After re-installing the hood decal myself - I would now like to paint the headlight area black - because of prices these days I just want to do it myself. I would like to just use spray cans. Can someone recommend the correct paint I should use and the procedure. - Many Thanks

I'd go with SEM Trim Black.

I used SEM trim black 39143 on my:
-Quarter window trim
-front and rear windshield trim
-wiper cowl
-mirrors
-door handles
-wiper arms

It looks factory and has held up excellent. Goes on nice and dries fast. Couldn't recommend it enough.

For the pastic stuff I cleaned it well with dish soap and water. While it was wet and soapy I scuffed it lightly with a soft scotchbrite pad. Then rinsed. Wiped down with rustoleum wax and grease remover (or any paint prep safe for plastics) using a lint free towel. Let it dry. Then follow the instructions on the can.

Thank you kindly for that through answer it helped me out - that's exactly what I'm going to do. Your car looks very nice.

No prob. Love that 4 eye. Looks great. Nice job on the decal!

They have different sheens available, but the one I linked is my favorite. It's not glossy, nor flat and rough feeling. It holds up well and even my mirrors with bug splatter clean off just fine.

I bought the car for my daughter, her first car I hope I didn't make a mistake, it was brutal teaching her the manual. I finally gave up and just said go without me and learn yourself. Back in the day I had four of them 1982 Black GT - 1985 Burgandy GT - 1988 Black GT then finally a 1992 Red GT - then Fordf trucks from then onward. She seen my old photos and really wanted one.

SEM 39153 matches the original trim color. Many people use trim black instead.
