Borla Stinger S-Type vs FRPP 5GT, Warranty

I was curious about these two mufflers and seeing how Borla does manufacture the FRPP 5GTs, I called up Ford Racing and inquired about the warranty coverage for the less expensive 5GT. Ford Racing said that if anything should happen (rust ) it would have to taken up with Borla, who would stand behind the product.

Basically, it looks like going to the slightly more expensive Borla will get you the Borla script and 4" tips, whereas the less expensive 5GTs will net you smaller 3.5" tips with the Ford Racing script. The warranty is going to be the same, according to Ford Racing.

you are correct sir...i even have a set for sale in the SE classifieds, and the National classifieds if you are interested in the FRPP ones that is. as for the warranty, i don't know how you would work that since i bought these new off ebay...

I would go with Borla and get the 4" tips. My Flows have the 4" tips and fill up the cutouts nicely.

Sorry to inform you but Borla will not honor ANY warranty for the parts we make for Ford Racing. If you want the Borla warranty, you need to buy the Borla part.

The FRPP exhaust we build for Ford Racing is built to the needs of Ford Racing and not the needs of Borla. As a result, Borla Performance will only stand behind the parts designed and built by Borla and branded with the Borla name.

Whomever told you this is misleading you and you might want to let them know that Borla will not warranty the FRPP parts.

I was just relaying what Ford Racing told me directly, so Ford Racing was wrong. Thanks for the clarification though. I can't imagine Ford Racing having significantly different requirements than Borla. They're both extremely expensive axle-back mufflers.

The good news is, both are made from 100% T304 so the quality of both parts is superior meaning warranty will not be in issue. Are there other axel backs made from 100% T304 that are signficantly less expensive?

The SLP LM's are about $300-$400, and the Steeda "Stingers" are also less expensive. The Steeda "Stingers" look like they're made by Borla as well, but Steeda carries a lifetime warranty on these axle-backs.

If Ford Racing gets them from Borla, the warranty should still come from Borla. Any product a retailer sells is warrantied by the manufacturer, not the retailer.

Also, they have the same tips. From the outer edge, they are both 4". I've seen them side by side, only difference is the name.

Borla Stinger Install Problems

I have an 07 GT. A couple of weeks ago I bought some Borla Stingers from Summit Racing. I had fully expected to have to do some slight centering of the pipes (I had to heat and bend the hangers 2+ inches to even get it close for the passenger side) but after 3 hours of attempting to make them fit I decided to take them back for a new pair.

Anyway, this is why I'm a little perturbed with Borla. I exchanged them for a new set. Guess what......the new set had a wider cutout where the Borla pipe fits up against the set-screw on the stock over-the-axle pipe. This wider cutout allows the borla pipe to rotate quite a bit more. It seems as if Borla knew about this issue with the 07's and did not specify this or change the part number. The second set that I got clearly had the problem fixed.

Besides the 6 hour ordeal of installing them......they sound amazing

So, 07 owners beware......

Borla was the one that said they don't honor the Borla warranty for the 5GTs, even though they made them.

I'm not sure I completely agree with this. My reasoning is this: Say I make a bad-ass product that I completely stand behind because it is my product made how I want and know works. Now, say my next door neighbor comes over and says, "I want you to make a product for me to my specs, and I'm going to stamp my name on it". I'd say fine, but they aren't being built to my specs and how I'd want to build them to sell, but that's all you if you want them that way. I wouldn't warranty them if they are technically (in this case Fords') someone else's product, even though I built them for them. They were built to Ford's specs, not Borlas', they were just the people that put them together for them.

Another example would be this: I bought my Xbox 360 at launch. It has died on me twice. I'm not expecting the people that "made" the box (over in Taiwan or where ever) to be responsible, I expect Microsoft to be responsible. The box might be considered Microsofts product, but it was made for them to their specs and aren't warrantied by anyone else besides them. The video card in the Xbox is made by Nvidia (or ATI, I forgot) to Microsoft's specs, if it goes out, do I call Nvidia (Borla in this case), nope, I call Microsoft (Ford in this case)

Again, this is all just my humble opinion, I give you permission to disagree if you like.

I'm with ScottM on this. Ford is not just a retailer on the 5GT mufflers, they are the "manufacturer" who developed the specs and stamp their name on them, it just so happens that Borla owns the plant they are made at. Think of it this way, if your power seat goes out, do you go to Lear (or whoever made them) or to Ford?

So, 07 owners beware......

You had trouble with your install not because of Borla but because Ford got cheap on some mid year Mustangs and changed the hanger styles.
