I was changing my plugs and the back plug on each head broke off. Can the heads be removed with the engine in the car? And does any have a write up about changing the heads?
I'm sorry to here that has happened to you. When I changed my plugs about 10,000 miles ago. I noticed that they were very difficult to remove (Carbon buildup). Did you use hand tools or air tools? I used hand tools and shot some rust penetrate into the spark plug hole and slowly turned the plug a quarter turn at a time so that they wouldn't break. You can remove the heads with the engine in the car, but it seems that is the safest way to make the repair. So you don't drop any thing into the cylinder. Cams and port/polished heads are a good idea now.
i searched but i couldnt find anything, i just found info on how not to break them. i need to know how to fix this. If you have a link to a page that says what to do, please post it.
hey everyone...sorry to see that happened...if you bring it to your dealer they can get it out for you as ford has been having troubles with this too. but now they use a product called "aerokroil". you spray it in, let it sit for about ten minutes and your set to go. it will seriously free and frozen bolt. its amazing.
There is a tool for removing the lower ground electrode that separated from the far right plug in your pic. It's described in TSB 06-15-2, which is applicable to the 05 and later Mustangs even though they're not listed.
It's also described in video 26 in this link: http://www.flatratetech.com/index.php?categoryid=4
However, you may have to remove the head that contains both the lower ground electrode and the bottom section of porcelain from the far left plug in your pic, since the tool cannot extract the electrode with the porcelain still in it.
If you happen to have part of the electrode fall into the cylinder you can adapt a piece of rubber vacuum hose to your vacuum cleaner and stick it down through the hole to suck out any debris caught down there.
well, i guess im going to pull the heads off. i want to get some new cams for it, i was thinking of the bbr stg 2. would that add much power if i didnt buy ported heads to go along with it. $900 with valve springs for the cams should i just spend my money on something else?
could cams, cai and a tuner drop a second off my 1/4 time?
