Would a broken motor mount squeak? I hear an annoying squeak when the car is running but cant locate it. When the car is not running I can shake the h-pipe on the passenger side and hear it. I really dont feel like replacing a motor mount. if thats not it. Such a PITA.

Anything else I can look for in that area that could do this.

Spray a little lube into the the rubber exhaust hangers and see if it goes away.

There is no exahust hangers where the noise is coming from. Its in the engine compartment.

If you want to check the motor mounts...

Pull the ebrake tight.
Put the car in 1st and let out the clutch a little
See if the drivers side of the engine raises up/ or if you feel a thud when you let off the gas.

Then put it in reverse and do the same as above
se if the passenger side raises up / or if you feel a thud when you let off the gas.

If it raises up or you feel a thud from either side then that mount is bad.

No thuds or hard hits... only the squeak.

You should get in the car and have someone shake the pipe to make sure its the same sound.

Does the sound get worse with RPM ? Can you hear it if you push the clutch pedal in ? Is it worse when the car is moving or standing still ?

Maybe I'm crazy but I don't think the reverse idea will make the other side of the engine lift up.. The engine always spins in the same direction.

As for the squeak.. Can you get your hands around the valve covers and shake the engine? Does it squeak then?

I'll try that tomorrow with attempting to shake the engine..

Its does it when at idle, very little, but way more noticeable when moving. No difference in frequency with Engine RPM. Nothing to do with the clutch. Thought it was the t.o.b at first.

I know its the same sound shaking the exhaust and when I'm driving. You definitely notice it when the car is moving over a rough road than a smooth one.

Yes, it works. I've used this test many times over the years. It's easiest to se in FWD cars though. They seem to have the most flexible motor mounts.
