just picked up an 03 cobra and everything on it is great except when driving at constant speeds. i get the bucking feeling kinda like a lean problem. nothing at idle, accel or decel. only mod to it is a cai (i dont know who makes it). i cleaned my maf and made sure everythign is connected up pretty good. only thing else i can think of is the cai is screwing with the air coming in. any other ideas?

Bucking? Only mod is a CAI? Are you sure that's the only mod? Can you be more specific with your description of the bucking?

it feels like its running lean for a half a second and the car slows down. now this happens within .5 of a second so its really really fast but sometimes it does it 4-5 times in a row and it is very annoying. im going to change the fuel filter tomorrow along with looking for any more leaks before the intake for unmetered air. i know the only mods is a cai because everythign else on the car looks completely stock.

well today was kinda bad. almost felt like a minor misfire but no codes were being thrown. im still trying to get a stock air intake cause the cai has a bend before the maf and some are saying that causes what im feeling. i want to figure this out cause today is also shut down on me coming from a 70mph-0 stop pretty quickly. there are time when at idle it varies from the normal 750rpms down to 500rpms and back up. i dont think the car is supposed to idle at 500 rpms so im thinkin something is for sure up.....anyone else have any ideas and if you do, can you describe where they are cause im clueless about where everything is in this non-5.0 engine

What color is this CAI? Just out of curiosity... is it a Densecharger by chance?

no, its a chrome one. im assuming a semicheap one like bbk or mac or along the lines of that. im just going to go back to stock to see if that fixes the problem. a cai isnt too big of a deal for me but we will see if that does anything for me

i just wanna say that the car runs 100% better with the stock air box in. the 90* of the car intake was the culprit. i instpected everything before i took it apart and all the connections looked like they were air tight. it was totally worth it to but it back to stock air intake as everything is running beautiful unlike it was before.

Don't throw in the towel yet as far as CAI's go. A good (well engineered) CAI is worth 15-20 RWHP on these cars and that's a proven fact. You just happened to get one that was designed more for the "Bling" factor and unfortunately that bend before the MAF was causing a disruption in the laminar air flow across the MAF sensor. In the future you may want to look at getting a CAI that's a straight through model like the K&N FIPK, Steeda, or JLT RAI model.

You really need to have someone who knows about 03/04 Cobra's take a look at the car to ensure there are no modifications and that it is truly bone stock. You could possibly be causing damage to the motor by inducing this "bucking" by accelerating in 6th gear. Why are you even attempting to accelerate in 6th to begin with? What happens when you accelerate in 2nd through 5th? Does it still buck?
