hello everyone, new to the site, i have a 69 fastback and the steering is driving me crazy, want to switch to either manual or power rack, question is does the manual rack turn easier than a mustang with original manual steering

I'm considering the same route for my '65.

I put in a total control manual rack, and it's a little tough in parking lot situations, but on the open road it's fine. I only have 225 size front tires, and a small block, so that makes it easier. I haven't driven an original manual steer in a long time, so I can't say exactly how much it differs...

I replaced the manual box in my '70 with a rebuilt unit and it steered much, much easier. I've also noticed a huge difference if I let my front tires get a little low vs. recommended pressure.

If you have an old, worn out manual steering box - a new box built by anyone will be a huge improvement. If the manual box in your car is relatively new probably only the power options will make a big difference.

when you say driving you crazy, how do you mean? are you getting bump steer? or does the car wander and you have a lot of play in your steering wheel? if you have a lot of play, then there are a few things that can be causing it, a bad steering gear, a bad suspension alignment, or a a bad front suspension, or a combination of all three.

swapping to a rack and pinion steering wont necessarily help the situation, and has other issues you have to deal with as well. personally i would start by checking the condition of the front suspension, then the suspension alignment, then the condition of the steering gear. i second the option of swapping to a borgeson power steering gear to your stang.

Are you running the borgeson box with the factory ford pump or with their pump? It seems like by time you get their pump the setup is 2/3 the cost of rack and pinion
