C4 trans shifter shaft

I hope someone can help me. I have a 66 Mustang and I had to replace the C4 trans. I bought a rebuilt one from Auto Zone and the shifter shaft in the side of the transmission is for a column shifter. Can I take out the shaft and rotate it up to work with a floor shifter or do I have to buy a new shaft.

You can change them, but not flip them. I guess you already turned in your core. To swap them is not hard. You might try a trans shop and see if they will trade them out.

I just put the C4 that came out of my 68 into my 93 and flipped the lever from the bottom to the top and it works just fine.

The one I had was a different length arm. The column shift arm was longer so it needed more travel than my shifter had.

Thanks for the info.

I think I will try and flip it over to see if it will work. But I was thinking I would have to replace it.
