Hello everyone,
Newbie in need of advice on camshaft choice if you don't mind ?

Car weighs approx 2800 lbs

3.62:1 diff ratio

T56 gearbox from 4.6 modular engined mustang.

Engine spec so far includes

Edelbrock performer RPM 2 intake

Probably 70mm throttle body

Edelbrock performer rpm heads with 1.9" inlet valves

Scat cast 3.25" stroker crank

Scat steel rods

Icon forged + 0.030" pistons

1 5/8" headers

Emerald engine management (no MAP of MAF sensor, just throttle angle and rpm) K3 Engine Management System

I would like the car to cruise in top gear from 2000 rpm and still be willing to rev to 6000 even if it peaks earlier.

Would the XE270HR with 114 LCA be OK for this set up ?

If not any recommendations that will work OK and not give a rough idle, burn loads of fuel ?

Thanks in advance for any help

Mark

I'm from the UK and our cars have to go through a yearly MOT (Ministry of Transport) test for roadworthyness.

My car was built in 1989 and it will need to pass specific emissions requirements, too rough an idle will push my unburnt hydrocarbon too high and 1200 parts per million is the limit.

I figured a cam that will give a reasonable idle will also be OK for emissions ?

What does the XE270HR idle like ?

Thanks

Mark

changes where the power will peak. typically a lower lsa with all other specs on cam being the same will increase peak horsepower i believe. it will be a little more choppy of an idle. the 114 will have a smoother idle and will provide better low end performance. performance wise.. im unsure if youll notice a huge difference.

Check out Anderson cams. They make great off the shelf cams. Youd probably be looking at a b-21 or b-41 if you plan to run a blower. N-41 if staying natural

there are a lot of assumptions here about cams and LSA. in the terms you guys are referring, as to off the shelf cams, thats usually how it works. however, lsa is just an aftermath of the lobe centerlines. once you determine where the lobe centerlines come from you will have a much better understanding of how the cam lobe effects the engine combination.

FWIW, if you are looking at a cam that will idle well and pass emissions i would look at the anderson b31 hi rev. and not because you are wanting to rev it high or run a supercharger. there are a quite a few cams out there that run well in combinations other than what they were designed for.

Thanks for the answers.

I'll look into some of the suggestions.

I filled in an online form on the Comp Cams website and they emailed me recommending the XFI 236HR....

Specs seem pretty wild for a daily driver

part #35-775-8. Specs a 236/248 @.050 .579/.579 on a 114 LSA

advertised duration of intake 286 and ex of 300

Edelbrock state max lift at 0.575" for my heads.

lol yea that does seem like a lot of cam.... call anderson =). btw i was just giving a general explanation of what would happen if all specs on the cam were left constant and the Lobe separation was changed... good luck again! =)

the lobes may be left alone and the LSA changes, but you really cant tell what its going to do unless you know how the centerlines were changed. and that only tells you whats going on if you know the effect centerlines have on the opening and closing events.
