Fox Can an 86 cluster work on an 89 wire hardness?

Can an 86 dashboard cluster work with an 89 wirehardness?

I have a 1979 mustang with engine swap from a 89gt with harness but my dashboard and cluster are from a 86 GT.

So it’s got efi from a 89?

The 89 cluster gas gauge will not work with the 79 fuel tank quantity sender. You will need the sender from the 89, or use the 89 tank and fuel pump assembly.

Fuel gauge sender ohms

Copied from bstrd86

86 and older are 73 ohms empty, 8-12 ohms full. '87 up are 16 -22 ohms empty 145-158 ohms full.

Thank you so much.

I am using the 89 fuel tank and fuel pump assembly.

So will I have to go with after market gauges, for things to work?

With an 89 tank & sender you won't need to do anything for the fuel quantity gage except make sure you have it connected up correctly.

Most of the other stuff should work if you can figure out the wiring differences.
