Gas shouldn't be running out of any barrel if it's not running.

Was that when you were manually pumping it?

What kind of carb do you have? Does it have vaccuum secondaries? If so, gas won't pump out when you manually pump it... I'm assuming it isn't a double pumper cuz you have an auto trans... Not sure your level of "mechanic-ery" just trying to help...

Ok, do you mean the accelerator pump only has fluid coming out of one nozzle when you manually work the throttle? or do you mean that when the car is running that you only see fuel dropping down into one venturi (which is the thing in the center of the barrel)?

OK, to start with, what kind of work were you doing on the car?

Did you do anything with the distributor?, have any plug wires off for any reason?

Did the car run good prior to your working on it?

You should have a spray into both of the venturis' but I'm not sure that is what caused the pop.

Do you have fuel spraying from the Accel pump nozzles onto both venturis, down both barrels of the carb?

Might be some trash in your carb then because both nozzles should spray fluid.

Have you ever pulled the top off your carb before?

It's easy to work on. I bumped a thread that has a tuning guide in it along with a very useful link to a much more indepth tuning guide. http://www.telusplanet.net/public/gilesij/Volvord/edelbrock_1.htm

Anyway I think you might need to clean your carb, at least the accelerator pump nozzles.

There are more carb tunning/troubleshooting threads in my search results here. http://forums.stangnet.com/search.php?searchid=1952039&pp=25&page=5

I don't know if your driving the car daily or if it's sitting for long periods. If it's sitting for months while your working on it run most all the gas out of it, gas goes bad after a few months and can start gumming up things.

You can run a can of some type of additive carb cleaner first if you don't want to pull the carb apart yet and see if that frees' up the problem. If the cars on the road, run it hard for a few miles after you put in the additive. If that doesn't help then try jikellys suggestion. Might want to replace the fuel filter as well while your at it.

It should start even with gas only comming out of the one venturi, pump the pedal 5-10 times and it should fire up, it may run rough but it should start. In the old days we'd pour a 1/4 cup gas down the carb if we ran out of gas to reprime the fuel pump, the car would start but run rough till fuel was flowing regular thru the system. If you can't get it to fire up you may have more problems than your carb.

I've got carb problems now myself so I need to post a new thread w/ my problems now to. I think I know what mine is from but I just don't have all this time to deal with this car breaking down right after I just fixed something else time after time.

OK, sounds like it needs a rebuild, think mine does to.
All I ask anymore out of mine is for it to at least run for one week before the next problem arises, lol

I don't think it's that it needs a rebuild so much as it needs cleaning.

Don't bother with buying the carb cleaner in the paint can/pail at autozone, although having the pail and the corresponding small parts tray is nice. Instead get a large deal of acetone. You simply need to break the carb down removing the gaskets under the venturis and stuff and then soak the parts including the main body. I usually let it soak over night to boil all the dirt and what not out of it. The one thing you need to watch out for is the acetone evaporating.

A friend swears by mineral spirits like brush cleaner and you could use that as well. It is cheaper than acetone.

I usually also get a can of carb cleaner to blow out the passages in the carb with.

Good luck!!
