I think I have a problem with my carburator. Stangs blowing out a little bit of smoke when I start it stalls and seems to idle pretty high. Think I need a new carb? Now heres my second problem with that car has a 5.0l in it but it used to be a v6 Im pretty sure the engine is from an old grand marquis. How would I go about ordering a new carb if I dont know where it came from? Pls help obviously you can tell im a girl.Lol! stang is an 84 convertable. Body been redone to the 87-93 gt. I know crappy engine but im planning on putting a rebuild into it. but for now I just want it to stay running until I have saved enough to do what I want to it.

Every carb/engine/installation has its own particular need for 'tweaking' to get it to run as you expect it to. Replacing the carb will not probably do that for you, although it might. A replacement will still need to be adjusted somewhat. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, get a book for your car and read it through or find someone with experiance that is willing to help you. Experiance is a really great teacher. BTW... what kind of carb did they put on your engine?

if the carb is as old as the engine you put in the car then it probably needs a rebuild. is it a four barrel? or two barrel? holley street avenger series carbs are pretty much bolt on and run carb if you want a new 1.

first thing you need to do is find out if its a 2 or 4 barrel
take the air cleaner off look down inside the carb, your either gonna see 2
holes or 4 holes.
get a piece of paper and write all of the stamped numbers, names either on
a metal tag or on the carb itself.
you can either reply back here or call NAPA, either will be able to tell you what you got there..
if its a 2 barrel you should stick with a ford rebuilt from napa or local parts store.
if its a 4 barrel you can get an aftermarket edelbrock or carter
which are basic bolt on performance carbs found on the shelf
at pepboys or autozone..

Carburetor.

As mentioned, it helps to know what carburetor you are talking about. Your issue sounds as if you only need to adjust the choke.
