Carpet Cleaning

All, I actually found a black convertible carpet for my 86 at the junk yard. It is in pretty good condition, but it does have some dirt stains on it. I know with my floor mats, I could take them out and pressure wash them and they would look like new again, can I do this with the typical floor carpet as well? I am pretty sure they are rubber backed but I wanted to see if anyone else has done this so I don't ruin the carpet.

We just did this on a car that got flooded the other day. Take the carpet completely out of the car, wash it with soap and water and leave it in the sun to dry. We used pallets to put the carpet on so it would not trap water underneath.

If all else fails, new carpet is a little over $100 at LRS

I buy and sell cars all the time. I take the interiors out and scrub them up. Carpets go in the bed of my truck to the car wash. I spray um down with that rug doctor carpet cleaner for the machines or with the spray carpet cleaner for your house of any brand and scrub it with a tire/wheel brush. Then pressure wash it out. Let it dry in the sun for a while or in the garage. Then if there are any stains that wont come out, I lightly dust it with some vinyl dye spray bomb and brush it with the same brush. Let it dry and brush it all to fluff it. Look like new. Every time.

good to know, sounds like a project for this week.

I have to beat the carpet down some more to try to get all the sand out of it. It came pretty clean after the vacuuming. I was pretty surprised. I will try the vinyl dye on the thing to try to cover the light spots. So that spray doesn't make the carpet crunchy?

did you mix the tide and water and scrub with a brush? or did you create a spray out of it and then pressure wash it?

I've used my little green machine and scribes my rugs many time they allway turn out great just take your time and go over it as many times as you feel you can and you will be nothing but happy with how it turns out

They used to sell a foaming carpet shampoo at ORLY that you could squirt on the spot. it would float the grease and yuk out of the fibers, then scrub the poop out of it with a brush to get the rest. I've also used plain ol' 409 kitchen cleaner.

I grew up on the beach surfing so sand was always in the car or truck. A compressor and a bad ass air nozzle works great for blowing out the sand. I used to just use a quick connect with a fitting to a foot of 3/8 tubing. Good sheet.

P.S. I do use blow gun to get some dirt out and when it is dry you can dust stained spots with a vinyl dye and after it dries fluff it with a brush.

According to me you must not use the brush to clean the carpet. There are he chances of the threads to to be removed, instead use the machine to clean the carpet.

What about vinegar? Vinegar and laundry detergent solution to get out the deep stains, then just soap and water for the rest.

buy a few cans of hot shot aerosol carpet cleaner. Works better than anything else and you can keep the carpet in the car with the seats in.
