i need some help settling a stupid debate.... how can the cats in the stock h pipe be removed without replacing the entire h pipe? my g/f knows someone who says he can just "take em out" which makes absolutly no sense to me. and rediculous as it is she thinks i know nothing about mustangs ebcause i drive a subaru and i "knows imports which is nothing like a mustang" anyway, is there somethign magical about the mustang exhaust system that makes it different from any other exhaust system in the world? or are subarus the only car that you cannot just "take out" the cats?

Girlfriends friend = retarded.

I could be wrong (don't think I am) you would have to physicaly CUT the cats out and weld the same diameter pipe in place of the cats. If you know a welder I guess you could buy the aluminzed or steel tubing and weld it in place. That's my .02. Anyone else agree?

You could cut them out and put some flex pipe or something along those lines in their place, or gut them out and stick the case back on there.

this is the only thing that made sense, good, now i can convince her to get the bassani. another question are the 02 sensor bungs on the cats them selves of past them on the open pipe?

yeah you won't believe what it took to convince her that she didn't need all new O2 sensors... another thing someone told her, anyway i'm wondering if this guy cuts her cats off if the bungs will be ok. sounds more tedious than getting a new xpipe IMO... thanks guys

I bought a used 98 GT about a year and a half ago and the previous owner had done this. I'm still trying to figure out what's going on. My best guess right now is that the guy cut out the cats and then welded on a Flowmaster cat-back system. There is some sort of pipe welded on in the middle because the cat-back and the h-pipe are of different diameters.

I would have never known if it wasn't for the CHECK ENGINE light. Dallas Mustang MIL Eliminators are taking care of that issue.

yes, you can cut out the cats from the stock h-pipe, put a new piece of straight pipe back in there place and weld that up to make a sort of off road h-pipe.
