Well I have heard most of the positives when putting on headers. I would like to go with Flowtech's long tubes. This is mostly to help the exhaust ported E7's help get the gases out with the single profile cam, but will it change my exhuast note? Right now I have dual flowmaster 2 chamber 40's. Will headers make the exhaust sound clearer, mellow, loud, or what? I have heard that headers really make a differnece in your exhuast note. Is this true?

I like the "tinny" sound of headers along with a lumpy cam. It gives me goose bumps everytime I crank up my Stang.

be carefuf on headers we did tri-y headers and nothing but trouble hard to get on and the pitman arm hit when going to the left we ar going to have to cut reweld ours to make them fit,, maybe the flowtech are ok but i wouldn't go with tri-y and be careful around the starter also

Do you mean that rattly top fueller sound? To me that sounds like the pistons are about to explode lol. I sure wouldn't complain if my car sounded like that though...

Dont fear Tri Ys. Most of us have had no problems with them (if you go that route.)

Headers will make your exhaust sound throatier...or raspy. Its great. You will probably here a little more underhood noise also. Those thick, stock manifolds, tend to deaden some sound. I promise you that you will be please once you get some long tubes on!

The overall sound will be slightly louder, but the most noteable difference is in the tone not the volume. The best word I have to describe it would be "metallic". It is a higher pitch, and you can hear exhasut sounds from the engine compartment and transmission area not just the muffler/tips.

Sorry to hear about your problem with the tri-Ys Cobain. I have run Tri-Ys on almost all of my 289-stangs without any issues at all. My current one I went with equal length long tubes though. I chose not to use Tri-Ys because their main benefit (more torque) was not needed by my larger displacement engine, the 289s were a bit short on torque and the Tri-Ys helped that considerably.
