Changing spark plugs?

I am going to change them this weekend. What should I put in? Should I run one step colder?

Dont make the mistake of buying copper plugs. I went that route for some reason and they crapped out on me under 10K miles. Id just get Autolite replacements.

What year 'stang do you have? If its a 99-03, be careful! There's a lovely little "defect" that Ford refuses to acknowledge that can result in spark plug/coil blowout. I became part of what is known as the "poptart" club yesterday due to this problem.

Search on "ford spark plug blowout" if your car is one of these models...

By using copper never-seize and using the proper torque specs, you should never have a problem. Plugs popping out of the head occurs when the plugs are over tightened, ruining the aluminum threads. Using copper never-seize ensures that the plugs wont back out on you.

This rule applies to all aluminum heads. The "defect" are the people who installed the plugs incorrectly, and cranked on the plugs while tightening them.

If you only have basic mods, dont do one stage colder plugs. Just go with the oem motorcraft plugs.

Motorcraft AGSF-32C's at .054. Dont bother w/ special metals or special 4 arc arm designs.

Stock OEM plugs is what i would run.



The stock plug is a platnium plug on the modular motor. Technically copper plugs offer better performance, but with the spark plug squirting issue, i don't like to do plugs more than i have to.

The plugs have been known to shoot out on cars that have never even had the stock plugs touched yet.


Speaking of which, i have 45K miles on my car and haven't touched the plugs yet. I probably should do it soon because i've never seen platniums go past 50K and still look ok even though a lot of people swear they will do 100K. My car still idles smooth as hell though. i'm going to put the stock OEM plats back in even though i think Platnium plugs suck donkey ballz

I agree, I don't care for platnium plugs either. But I don't have a lot of serious mods so I guess stock is the way to go.

Ford has designed the iginition with the plats in mind, so there really isn't anything lost by running them.

The older 5.0's though came OEM with coppers and if you put plats in them, they tend to run rough or suffer other probs.

I wish they made silver plugs, and i'd run them!

But my car's a stock DD, so i'll stick with OEM stuff.

Those are nice but 9 bucks each is high. there are some on the steeda website called brisk and I think they are silver. But they are not cheap either.

Yup...a lot cheaper than the platinum units and cleaner burning to boot. To be honest...he probably won't notice a lick of performance though.
