I have been running mobil 1 full synthetic for quite some time now...and when I break my car out for the spring this weekend...i'm going to need to change the fluids again.

Currently I am running 5w30

I am thinking about switching over to 5w30 royal purple...

any suggestions???

how is the lineup of tranny/rear fluids???

thanx

for oil i woudl only really consider, Mobil 1, German Castrol(0w30), Redline or Amsoil.

Mobil 1 ATF is Mercon V approved.

you have to take of fhte diff cover to change the fluid. you will either need a tube of RTV or a gasket from a parts store. they do make gaskets, i know that NAPA carries them as well as CarQuest.

For the T45 I think its like 3.2-3.5 qts (you will need to buy 4 qts no matter what). And Mobil 1 is damn good, I wouldn't switch. Royal purple is great, don't get me wrong, but you generally have to order it @ ~$6 /qt plus shipping which can get expensive. I can go to walmart and buy a 5 qt jug of mobil 1 for 22.99 + 5.25 for an extra qt + 2.99 for a motorcraft oil filter and be done with it.

Agreed.

Use a 80w-90 for the rear end. Synthetics are always good. You should consider flushing your brakes and radiator also, if you haven't done so already.

Yes...mobil 1 IS damn good...but I went out last night and purchased my 6 quarts of 5w30 royal purple, and a motorcraft filter...and it was worth EVERY penny of it...

The car actually feels like its running PERFECTLY as it should...I'm never going back to any other synthetic...

Are those the right Fluids i should be buying for the rear gears and tranny fluid???^^^^ Also...will i need a friction modifier or no???

I'm also going to try out the "purple ice"....I'm MORE than impressed with this stuff...

Mobil1 is not what it used to be. They changed base stocks and now the oil is of similar quality to most every other major brand synethic (and about $1.50 more a quart). As it stands now, Mobil1 is just a regular synthetic.

I don't know enough about Royal Purple motor oils to help. I've heard mixed reviews about it. I do know they're gear oils perform very well.

Amsoil has always been a great choice in oil. It's not as pricey (relatively speaking) as it used to be and the they're oil filters do extremely well in the tests.

The weight you're running is fine. You can go 5W-20 or 5W-30 and the engine will run fine. As long as you're not running anything exotic on it and changing your oil at reasonable intervals, you'll be served well by any "normal" synthetic.

ya i have been dissapointed by M1 changing to a Group 3 basestock instead of using a PAO base stock. i still have a stash of M1, about 30 quarts, but and slowly building a stash of GC, i have about 12qts of that, but its so hard to find.

i love that both my cars take the same filter, i have a 2000 grand marquis also, so i have a ton of FL-820s filters. i go to Wal-Mart and buy them out, which isnt often considering the closest ones are 50 miles away.
