I keep hearing of these critters: what are they/ do you lose power down low by switching/ why are they there?

All they are is plates that mount below the intake manifold. The stock ones have butterflies within the plates that open and close via an electric motor. The new ones have no butterflies and do away with the electric motor that actuates them.

Justin from VMP Tuning.com and myself have proved a few people wrong. The myths that you lose power down low and mileage is simply false. If you don't know how to tune for them than sure it can happen but than again it could happen without them. My car gained 6 rwhp and 8 rwtq from the addition of the CMCVs. I didn't see a noticeable gain in mileage and definately no loss.

I lost about 1MPG but gained about .10 in the 1/4. Good mod for the money. With all my other mods, I still average around 22MPG in the city, over 30MPG on the highway, and around 27MPG on the interestate.

will these void your warrenty? for the price you can't beat the power gain, i'm just worried about keeping my warranty valid.

i know its mainly if they can trace it back to you using that part causing it, but i don't to take any chances.

Well, if you're careful removing the motor, the stock ones can go back on if something happens with your motor. I'm sure, since you're tearing off the intake manifold, that they would void your warranty if you came in with them on and had motor problems.

The Steeda instructions for the plates say a dealer is required to reinstall the factory plates, I am guessing for alignment purposes. Big debate on another forum about the race plates and econo plates. Personally I got the econo plates. Its a must have for any car with forced induction. It will require a tune after installation. I went from 382 rwhp to 412 rwhp but I have no idea how much the plates contributed as i installed an aluminum flywheel the same day before it went on the Dyno.

The gains on the race plates are laughable, definitely not worth the extra coin.

Would they provide more gain on a blown motor? I don't need the low end torque that the factory charge motion control valves help with, as I have a 4,500 rpm stall converter and 4.10 gears. Plus, removing the airflow restriction with a 10.5 psi blower (such as the Vortech on my GT) is probably a good thing, isn't it?

The CMCVs are a great addition to a Votech'd car and of course they would provide even more power gains. Do you have access to get tuned on a dyno from a reputable tuner?

That's what I thought - thanks. We have an awesome dyno tuner nearby with a great reputation with modular V8's. He's done a few custom tunes for me already with nice results.

after i installed mine it seems like my car pulls smoother through the power band for some reason? i like them though, great mod for the money!
