Charger SRT8 -

Eeeek!!! I just got an email from Dodge announcing the SRT8. I'd seen the others SE-RT and was NOT impressed. But - MY GOD - This SRT8 looks good...at least in the photos. It's got a monster under the hood....yet performance-wise the numbers look comparable to the Mustang. But this thing looks tough!

Not looking for flames - just expressing standard chick reactiveness. I didn't make a mistake, did I? Oh, I think I'm gonna cry!

I still don't like it, it needs to be a coupe not a sedan. It does look better than the previous pictures that were released though.

I dont know a price but I am sure the 425 hp version will be 40k minimum. You didnt make a mistake.

GTJade Sweetheart!!, I saw this car at the NY Auto Show and it is nothing more than a 300C with some styling changes and suspension mods. It is a HUGE car and its an automatic transmission. Great cr if you hav 5 kids and can only get 1 car. As for comparing this to a GT FORGET IT. This is an old mans car sported up a little. I drove the 300C Hemi and the car is a TANK. If you want a massive car that makes you feel totally safe with alot of HP and Torque this fits the bill. If you want a more nimble car that handles alot better, looks alot better and is ten times more fun then the GT is the right choice. I continue to fight but the power of the chip is too much for me!!

Okay, I've calmed down...just searched for some more pictures (and read your posts). It is most definitely a sedan (yuck) and does look like the chunky Magnum or 300C. The photo on the email was deceiving...must have been the angle of the shot and the smoke from the tires obscured the rear doors! Lol! That pic coupled with what the article said about the engine, features, etc...well, it sounded good. Bad initial reaction on my part - I know I made the right choice!! Yay!!

Yeah those pics, esp the one of the black one in mid-drift made it look really hot. I saw the Charger at the Detroit autoshow, and saw the SRT-8 at the NY Autoshow, and while the SRT had quite a lot of bling, and I'm sure the 6.1 Hemi doesn't lack power, the looks really just didn't do it for me, looked kinda awkward. In terms of American muscle, I guess its on the other side of the GTO from the mustang, adding more luxury, NAV system (i think?), 4 doors, yet still 400 horses strong. The SRT-8 should be able to smoke a mustang GT, but it will cost around 10 grand more than a GTO. So it all works out in the end.

I saw one in Amelia Island and it was stickered at $43K but that du\idn't include any dealer markup that may take place. I did like the brakes, 14 inch brembos with 4 piston calipers. It's a fatty . . .

Let me preclude my remarks that I'm a '05 GT owner and LOVE my car.

I agree with the remarks made by some here that the Charger is big...very big...and yep its a 4-door sedan.

Hell I'd almost want to ditch my '03 Explorer and go to this as our "family" vehicle.

That said, its no 300 and no dog. It has a genuine bored out 6.1 litre 425hp hemi engine. That 4 door family sedan will blow the doors off of our stang's without even thinking about it. With Mom in the passenger seat and Jimmy and Cindy in the baby seats in the back to boot.

I agree sedan or not, that thing looks like a monster. But, that is part of the appeal of the Mustang, it is not the most agressive looking but if can still put up the numbers with the big block boys. I say bring em' on!

That's a 4100+ lb. tank (without driver) that's paired with the 425 HP engine.

For the $40-43K this vehicle would cost, would you like a Mustang GT with $15,000+ of mods...? Or stick that $43K into a one-year savings account and buy a spanking new Ford Shelby Cobra GT500 with money to spare for gas when it matures?

One other thing - that Charger's going to suck as a "family car", because according to Motor Trend it (and the 300 SRT8) are getting an EPA estimated 14 MPG in the city, 19 MPG on the highway... and we all know what real-world mileage is compared to EPA estimates. If I drove one for a daily driver, I could pass everything except a gas station! That's why I have an Accord for my daily driver, and my Mustang for weekends... tons of space & miles to the gallon for my daily commute to work/daycare.

It is not going to blow the stang away, looks very close.

It wont be blowing anything away except for corners, other huge family cars, and your gas money... With the same money the Shelby would be showing it a binocular view of it's hind quarters...

Not often at all, but I agree with Excon...

As said, this car is for old men with lead feet and people to take with them...

And saying that the Mustang doesnt look aggressive... Well, I think they do... At least more than before...

It's not my cup of tea, but I say bring on the competition. If Ford has this market all to itself I seriously doubt the Stang will continue to improve.

A little trash talking between competitors could go along way to a better breed of Stang.

Well I've pretty much given up on the idea of a true midsize two door muscle car from DC. But maybe DC will see the success of the new Mustang and build a new Challenger--I'm wondering if they could do this by using a shortened/modified version of the LX platform used by the 300/Magnum/Charger. Both the Crossfire and the GTO have been a disaster, though, so maybe they are gunshy. To gearheads looking for a fun, cheap and still somewhat practical car this kind of stuff seems like a no brainer, but the corportae bigwigs who personally drive large four door luxu sedans and big $$$ sports cars can't seem to figure it out. Oh well...

I'd be very surprised if it even got anywhere near that...I had a Dodge Magnum V8 Ram truck - wasn't even a hemi...that dang thing didn't even get over 10mpg in the city...

My GT is my daily driver....it actually does pretty good. I'm entirely in the city so I don't have exceptional mileage but it averages 16-17mpg if I'm not too aggressive which is plenty good to me. Of course I usually drive it like I stole it and my mpg is around 14-15 but that still isn't bad. It is better than the dang 6 cylinder Taurus that the GT replaced.

I agree, the stang certainly has it beat in the finesse department...and the cost is just entirely too much...but dang...

My all time favorite true sports car is the original 427 Shelby AC Cobra...that car would go from 0-100-0 in 13 seconds in stock trim. To think that this behemoth family sedan could do it in 16 seconds is pretty impressive.

LOL I wonder how many angles they tried and how long they spent figuring out the best one. The one in your link is by FAR the most flattering angle. Not nearly as cool as a GT.
