Clutch is chattering bad. I know the old Ford clutches had problems with humidity, but this was bad. Anybody else have this problem? I have about 8,800 miles on it is all. Please help.

Get it in to the dealer quick. The clutch (and any friction materials on the car) is only warrantied for 12 months/12,000 miles.

So I suppose then that I need to pull my CAI and tune...even though they have nothing to do with the clutch.

The Ford dealership says there is nothing they can do, even though the manager felt the "chatter" in first gear. He claimed I was riding the clutch, which I was not, but regardless, it should not even chatter if I do ride it.

What the hell do I do now? Take it to another dealer? I have never had a stick shift chatter so much everytime I try to park or start slowly and I have had some beater cars in my time.

If this is the service I get then maybe I'll put myself on the list for a new Challenger or something, to hell with Ford. At least try to diagnose why it is chattering...

To me, chatter = stutter. But it is not the engine, definitely behind the engine in the drivetrain. The only thing that I can think of is a glazed spot on one of the friction discs, in which case it will hopefully wear itself away...

Nope, call Ford Customer Service. The number is in the back of your owners manual. They will take care of you.

Yeah thats the best thing to do. We really do not like to approve clutch repairs at the dealer level since it's easy for ford to bounce the claim. Once the reg. office approves the repair the dealer will do it for you.

Yep, cause if they find nothing wrong with the clutch, Ford kicks the claim back to the dealer, and now the dealer just ate a clutch kit and the time and pay for the mechanic.

BTW: My mother in law had this same problem with her Miata. When we went and saw them in Michigan, I took it in for them to look at it. They claimed it was out of warranty, but it needed to be replaced because of the severe chatter... haha They ate their words, because she had brought it back to them while in warranty (12/12000) and they denied her, saying there wasn't a problem. Because there was a paper trail and a concern from the customer during the warranty period, her 30,000 mile clutch was replaced for free.

I had my car in for service, and the service manager says he hears clutch chatter. I never even noticed it. They want me to bring it back for a clutch replacement - under warranty! Should I pinch myself hard?

What's the clutch chatter sound like? Is it kind of like a rattling when the gas is pressed?

the whole car will shake and shudder usually when taking off slowly, you'll know it when you have it.
