check engine light on

have a 98 gt and with some mods including long tube headers and off road h pipe. i have 4 mil eliminators but the light still comes back on. i do reset the computer everytime. it comes on after like an hour of driving. any ideas what is wrong or another way of getting rid of this without eliminators?

How long have you had the mil eliminators on? I put them on my 96 cobra awhile back and at first it turned the light right off and then it came back on a few days later. I drove it for awhile like a few thousand miles and then it went off and never came back on again Maybe u just need to ride it around awhile like i did.

why do you have 4 mil eliminators ? your only suppost to have 2 after the cats

Yes I also have not heard of anyone having more than 2 MIL eliminators on there car

Aren't there 2 sensors before the cats and 2 after (1 on either side of the X or H Pipe) ?

just the rear O2s need MILs

The front O2 sensors are used to maintain the air-fuel ratio while in closed loop operation. If you MIL eliminators on them, you will make your car run rich. The rear O2 sensors are only used to verify that the cats are functioning. Those are the ones you put MIL eliminators on.

not sure about the mil eliminators, but my check engine light came on last week, kinda had me going, then it went off. I have a mechanic buddy who told me that at certain mileage intervals, the light will come on.

Ask a friend with a scanner to scan your car or take it to PepBoys, must likely they will scan it for free. That should tell you what the problem is.

That is true with some cars, but not newer Fords. T-birds and Taurus in the late 80's or early 90's had a light that was timed to come on every 3000 miles to remind you to change your oil, but that wasn't tied into the check engine light if I remember correctly...
