well I was on my way home from about an hr away this afternoon and my check engine light comes on so when I got home I went by autozone and got them to run a diagnostic test and it came up with --P1443 Evaporative Emission Control Valve-- the guys there didn't know what that was and neither did I so I went by the ford dealership and asked them what it was and the parts manager tells me that the machine that autozone uses is a generic machine and that they would have to run a diagnostic test before they could tell me anything....and in the process charge me like $40. but what I am wondering is if any of you have heard of a Evaporative Emission Control Valve.....I reset the computer and the check engine light has stayed off so far so it may just have been a glitch or something. but yeah thanks for any help you give.

P1443 Evaporative Emission Control System - Vacuum System - Purge Control Solenoid or Purge Control Valve fault.

thats the code.. now the first thing you have too remember is codes only tell you what system the fault is in. it does not pinpoint what component to replace. thsi si why shops charge diag. we need too take this info and other info from pinpoint tests. live data and try too figure out whats wrong.

$40 is a bargin for EEC diag. that would most likely tell you what you already know and if the tech can figure it out in a hour or so then your good. if it takes longer you pay for longer diag.

evap diag can be very complex and annoying. could be something as simple as a pinched off vac line or a bad solinoid.

i think you might have too take this one to a shop . without the car in front of me and proper tests done by somebody who is knowledgable. and without somebody with knowledge reporting back too us i doubt we can help.
