Anyway. What under the hood looks bad? I understand the mufflers suck and the underbody could be cleaned and coated. But nothing else seems bad...

I think you all are just buggin cause of the miles.

Maybe im wrong.. Fine.. Point out a car that is in good condition for its price, in my area.

You asked for opinions. So we gave you some.

I know my car would not look like that after 10 years of sitting. My OPINION, is that you can do much better for the money.

I am not trying to bust yoyur bubble or dump on the car your looking at, I just think you can do a lot better for the money. Shop around, you can find cars with great interiors, nice molding, non-faded paint with 100K on them for $5500. It's your money and it really comes down to what you think and what you like.

Personally, I would pass on that car for anything over $2500. If he's the original owner, a Carfax won't tell you squat about the mileage. It could be 128,000 or even 228,000 and Carfax won't know because it hasn't had a title and registration change. Regardless of the mileage, that car has obviously spent its entire life in the weather and looks like crap. It is going to take a lot of parts, time, effort, money and elbow grease to get that thing looking halfway presentable.

Holy hell....you ask opinions, you don't want them....you want a support thread. Fact is my 200,000 mile car was beat to hell but that pc above is still in worse condition. 5 grand is likely going to leave you with a car that's TIRED mechanically simply because it's BEAT...it looks beat. I understand you've made up your mind and want to be supported, but that's a fairly tired car for 5000...save a little and upgrade. if you have another 2000-5000 in cash for future (likey trans/engine) rebuild then fine...I guess. Take the above advise...offer 3 and walk if he says no.

Now your talking... to me the first car looks pretty decent and the T-Top car looks pretty good from the pics.
These prices are little more in-line and the cars appear to be in better condition from the pics.

hey if you want to come to pa, i will have a black 88 lx for sale in a few weeks. The paint is okay, it will need to be painted. ITs an auto and will have a decent interior, brand new headliner, interior is grey. The car is far from perfect, but i will sell it you to at a price that will leave you with about 3-4000 for mods and paint. pm me for further details. The only real mod it has is the 3.73 rearend. I can send you some pics if intersted. ITs also got ponys. NOt trying to start an ad here just trying to help you out and offer you something that will save you alot of money. I only want to sell this car to make the t top stang i just bought a wash. i aslo have some other parts i could sell with it.

if that 28k is real then i dont even want to know what kind of life that poor things had. undersides nasty. have no idea how it doesnt have rust. look in the engine bay, shock mount bolts, brackets, all rusted, intake mani plaque is corroded, seats dont match, cage is why there arent rear speakers, brake calipers rusted, sunroof rusted, wiper arms are faded. it has nothing near 28 on it, maybe 128, and id believe the guy if he told me it had 228k on it. 3500 max. think about it you gotta hunt down seats, center console, fix a ton of rusted crap, clean the inside until your blue in the face and buff it until your arms hurt. just for starters that is.

Someone mentioned about the tires being stock. Nope the car appears to have Michelins on it, not an O.E tire on a Stang.
One other thing I noticed was that there is a puddle of something under the car. Is it a fluid or just a water spot.
I found mine in 2005 it had only 16K on it and was sitting for many many years. Car was more dirty than anything. Hell the spare tire well has all the pieces there but it was also loaded with roofing nails???? I was told the guy that owned it (now deceased) was in construction and he used the car apperntly to haul some stuff?????? Anyway it needed a huge detailing. It had some white water stains in areas that were tuff to get out, but there out. It had a bit of rust just under the wing that I got fixed with in a month after getting it. Mine did have the original Goodyears on the car about 1/2 worn but rotted bad. I know they were the OE because I sell tires for a living and know how to read the codes on the sidewalls that tell what year the tires were made. When I pulled the rear drums off to check the brakes, I did this before I purchased the car because it need tires to drive back to Charleston, the rear brakes had cobbwebs in them. I was able to have it put on a lift and it didn't look nowwhere close to that. It was actually bone dry, but dirty-- not rusty. Mine was @ that time $5200.00. (I think give or take 100). Drove it 400 miles home with no issues. A/C froze us out. To this day I still have not had to charge the A/C and she still is equipped with the o.e. plugs and wires.
Sorry for long post, but trust me man. Keep your money save and don't just settle for a car because you want one so bad. It was very tempting for me to settle on something that just was not exactly what I wanted, but "MY WIFE" made me. (THANK GOODNESS). I found my diamond in the rough.

Michelins were indeed an OE tire in 91-93 Stangs with Pony wheels.
It's mentioned in a couple of books I have as well as my 93 dealer brochure.

I may be wrong then, but I never heard of that. It is a Michelin XGT Z4 which is a Z rated tire. I have always seen them with Goodyears. But I am here to learn. I may of just got learned.
