i have this chrome/metal polish i bought at Walmart. Its from Eagle 1 and comes in a silver tin. works great put it on the tips, then polish it off to a great shine. to clean my tips, i have two pieces of cloth that i use to buff the tips with. the strips of cloth are about 4" wide and 12" long. I hold the strips of cloth horizontally over the top of the tip (one end in each hand) and then buff the entire tip from front to back. Kinda hard to explain, but i THINK you may be able to get the gist of it tell me if i need to be more clear.

I used coke and some aluminum foil. Worked great believe it or not. I saw it on MythBusters and decided to try it. Cheaper than the alternative and it worked.

I used some Eagle One wheel polish compound and some super fine steel wool on my old Mac tips. They cleaned up like new.

On stainless polished tip, i use a brillo pad. It doesn't scratch like you would think. I've used it 6 years on my LX's stainless tips and they still look new and shiny.

I wouldn't use it on chrome however.

I use Autosolv and it works good. I am not sure where to get it though. I used it on my original tips and it shined them up like new. Takes care of the oxidation and everything. That black stuff that gets on the tips... is that tire fragments? Polish compound works the best and a little elbow grease and you will be suprised.

yea I think thatthe black tar bits are mostly from the track! I got some of that polish stuff yet to try it I plan on trying it tomorrow. Windex will probobly clean the tips well but not get off the Road tar. As for the degreaser I will definitly give that a shot on my tips as well as my rims thanx
