chrome headers ?? $100 shipped

Allright, check these headers out, there around $100 shipped. No name, but looks good

This pair of chrome shorty headers are constructed of 14 gauge mandrel-bent tubing with 3/8 in. thick precision die stamed flanges. They feature 1 5/8 primary tubes comes with a chrome finish, gaskets and header bolts.

What do u guys think, Is this going to be ok?

It's a crap shoot there bud.

On the plus side; they have a one piece flange. My crappy Mac's have individual flanges that move & the holes resist lining up. It's really a cheap price; wholesale or darn close to wholesale dealer\ WD pricing.

On the negative side; chrome will probably look much worse up close than pictured. Not a major name brand header; so weld quality & hole alignment might be questionable. They probably do not meet California C.A.R.B. exemption spec. to pass the visual part of the test; might or might not be important to you tho....

I think you're asking for trouble. Spend a little more - it'll be worth it the first time you have to take them back off; and chances are with those they'll have to come off several times as you try to solve leaks.

how about these, there mac and new ? Nobody jack this auction until I am done deciding, I need some headers asap and have around a bill to spend.

I think the chrome ones have the carb # stamped on the welded on flange on the driverside header im not sure, I like the mac ones too, notice how the mac ones say 79-93 mustangs????????? Help me decide

damn im going to buy those

at least those are mac, i would steer clear of the others. i have bbk headers which arent much more and have had good luck with them.

I talked with the seller last night & he said they were mac. Look at other mac's new, they are the same. I am looking foward to my new exaust, I was adding a mac h-pipe, and when doing that 2 of the stock header studs broke, thats why I needed these headers, I wasent planning on replacing my headers when I got the h-pipe.

I bought some BBK Equal lengths in the classifieds for $50. Should always shop around a bit, unless that money is burning a hole in your pocket. Good luck.

I wish i could show you what they look like in a year. I have those headers on my car. They work well and fit nice....but they sure don't look pretty anymore

Ya ive heard the myth about mac exaust products rusting, but I live in San Diego, and it does not rain here much, Its been raining here the 2 past nights though. I will make sure to sand and spray on high temp paint when ever needed, I dont mind. For every 10 people who buy mac products there are 1 or 2 that have bad feedback. I needed them now, I dont have time to wait for some for $50 used, and i wanted new one's to prevent leaks.

Couple of words of caution - first, new Macs won't guarantee no leaks. Many brand new headers by many makers come from the factory with flanges that are not true/flat. Your first step upon receiving them should be to put a straight edge along the flange to see if they are true. I've measured many brand new that weren't - have a pair of brand new Flow Techs in my garage right now that probably have 1/16"-1/8" warp in the flange. If you try to simply tighten the header down and 'bend' the flange true against the head, you're asking both for leaks and header bolts that come loose regularly. The fix, if warped, is to take them to a machine shop and pay a few bucks to have them milled flat. That'll stop the leaks.

Second, unless you have them ceramic coated - they will eventually rust no matter how you coat them. And high temp paint is virtually useless on headers unless applied right over a freshly sandblasted surface. Even then, it too burns off and rust follows.

Cool, thanks for the heads up on measureing the flanges, I would ask for a refund if there is any warping, Thats just lame if their warped new.

Unfortunately, you bought the exact same header's I was warning you about! You will need to do what I did or else installation\removal will be a nightmare. Drill the flange holes out with a drill bit roughly 1\8" larger than the existing hole diameter. Other than that; they will do just fine & dandy......

Its ok, I did not want the no name headers, they looked "pinched" like stock headers right at the flange/pipe.I would like to pass smog with the macs on. Sure the chrome looked better but it would fade away and possibley leak from poor welds made in China or somthing. Looks like somebody bought the chrome one's though, it was a good price. I only paid $85 + $8 shipping for the mac's
