I saw a note on one of the Cobra Boards I also browse about the passing of "Dandy" Dick Landy, one of Pro-Stocks founding fathers. always had mean Dodges, an his famous cigar.

By far and away, my favorite era of Drag Racing. Early Pro-Stocks, the "Classic" age of funny cars, just magic.........

Wow! I wasn't even born yet, but watching that vid made the hairs on my arm stand up! How can you not love this stuff???

i sure wish drag racing was still like that. it was kinda cool to see ol' Jungle Jim doing a burnout or 2 as well.

Now finally I am old enough to be able to make you guys jealous!

As a kid, I dragged my Dad to many a Funny Car show at Englishtown and National speedway (now gone) in Long Island, NY. I got to meet many of these guys as a kid, and even have some super-8 film of a Funny Car event from around 1969. All of my heroes are from that era, Roger Lindamood, Dyno Don, Ronnie Sox, Blue Max, Candies & Hughes, and so many more. I have many pictorals from that era too. It was a majic time, never to be re-created.

I go to the Annual Funny Car Reunion at Englishtown every year, it's a MAJOR time warp, and I am usually giddier than a modern-day kid with a new X-box. I have even had the pleasure of chatting with Jungle Pam, and proudly wear one of thier T-Shirts.

While the modern stuff is technically incredible, it lacks the soul of the old stuff.

as it happens, i'm related to Raymond Beadle (of Blue Max fame) by marriage, sort of. my step dad's sister was married (and divorced from) to him and my cousins are his daughters. can't remember for sure when he bought the team though, i think it was in the mid 70's.

Ah, the Blue Max. It was one of the forces to be contended with back then. Trivia question - Name the crew chief....

pretty confusing for me too actually, since technically i'm guess i'm not really related at all but was for a short time but only due to marriage twice removed or something like that.

i think Austin Coil was crew chief for a while wasn't he?

Coil was the crew chief for the Chi-Town Hustler.

i knew that, well the Austin Coil part anyway, don't know i said his name, just instinctive i guess. any time i think of a drag racing crew chief i think of him. quite honestly i don't know who Fred Wilson was. i don't know if he was still crew chief when Ray had the team.
