Anybody have trips or tips for cleaning the outside of the intake. I have some grime and gunk on it and would like to clean it up. I have never used gunk or anything like that and for the amount of grime on the engine...it might be overkill.

pressure washer or car wash but Gunk works great to. I let the engine get warm not hot the spray it on and let it set about 3 min the hose it off, do it again if some still remains.\
Dont forget to cover the carb and dist with a plastic sandwhich bag or something.

Berryman's B12. Works wonders. No scrubing. Lets the bubbles do the work for you . It evaporates and leaves no residue. No heat in the motor needed for this one.

Those engine degreasers are basically spray on desiel fuel. Desiel will not hurt paint and is about $2 a gallon. I also use gojo hand cleaner and a brush. Toothbrush or paintbrush or whatever. Wash with water.
