Maybe you guys can help me out. Everytime I let off the gas in first i hear this clunking noise. It also happens when I shift into second and third. It sounds like something is a little loose. Any ideas what this could possible be? Thank you for any info.

I hear the same clunking noise in 1st gear, but I don't think it's anything to worry about. Read up on the TSB for the transmission if you want.

its not the transmission, its in the differential to driveshaft area. dont know exactly what but its in that area... get under the car, and you can twist the driveshaft about 1/2 inch outter diameter rotation. and lo and behold, clunk. from what i understand EVERYONE has this issue... however, i dont know if those with eatons and the like have it or not.

I know its not the transmission and I already had the TSB done. It sounds like it near the differential but I won't be anywhere near any tools to get under the car and look until tomorrow. Hope nothing breaks before then.

my car had the same problem about a year ago. the 4 bolts that attach the ds to the rear diff. were loose. they were tight enough to where I couldn't turn the driveshaft by hand, so it very hard to locate the problem. i tightened up the bolts and the problem never came back.

Probably just u joint clunk. Common in automatics, not so much in manuals.

I don't have the clunk you speak of :dunno:

I have a little bit of the clunk. I've had it ever since I bought the car and it stayed there after I installed my Eaton diff. To me it seems like it has something to do with the backlash in the gears. I tried to fix it by making the backlash a bit tighter but I ended up having to set it at .014 to get no noise.
