Cobra calibrated MAF on a GT with 19s?

Hey guys. I have a PRO-M 76mm chrome bullit MAF meter from a friend. It's calibrated for a 93 Cobra with 24# injectors. As far as I know, the 93 Cobra computer was designed to run with a stock MAF calibrated for 19s, and injectors rated for 24s. It took the input from the stock MAF and converted it into 24# terms for the injectors. That would mean that if the MAF on a stock Cobra is the same as on a stock 93 GT, and this ProM could replace the Cobra one, then it could replace the GT MAF too. I've tried running it on the car, and at the time there were other problems that I was having with it. The car ran fine, and had plenty of power, the only thing I noticed was a slight surge of the idle at startup. I think however, that was caused by a vacuum leak, and not the MAF. Anyway, what I want to know is whether or not it's dangerous to run this MAF on my motor now that I have it tuned in and running right. Could anything bad happen if I mount it on again? All my mods are on the car domain page, main players being a GT40 intake, E cam, and GT40P heads. I have 19# injectors on my car right now. Thanks guys!

im pretty sure its calibrated for 24# injectors. it doesnt have anything to do with the computer i dont think

In most cases, you'd be right, but everything I've heard says that the Cobra computer it's self was calibrated for 24s, not the MAF. My mechanic, who's a stang expert, says it should work fine, but said to ask around just to make sure.

The Cobra MAF is calibrated for 19#, the COMPUTER makes the changes for 24#. So a stock cobra MAF will work for a stock (19#) GT

I just put it back on and went for a ride. Car took all of three seconds to adjust. It idled high at first, probably because of all the extra air coming into the IAC, then it readjusted its self and idled normally. I took it for a ride, a hard ride, and It pulled harder and spooled up faster. It didn't ping, and when I got home and smelled the exhaust, it didn't smell rich. What signs should I look for if it's going to cause problems? As of right now it's staying on the car, unless something comes up and it causes problems.

I also heard that it was the computer that makes the ajustment on those cars

I called ProM, and the tech guy said that I should spend 110.00 to have it recalibrated, or buy a new meter. I told him thanks and hung up. I should've expected such a response, after all their main goal is profit. I'm sure they'd love to see me spend 222.00 on a new meter.

The Cobra meter is specific to the Cobra. Its transfer function is similar to the stock 5.0 meter, but not the same. So it will sort of work on a stock 5.0, but it won't run right.

that statement makes me laugh...

yep like already stated the eec in the cobra compenstates for the maf's transfer function using different injector high and low slopes.

Well, I took it off. I had do disconnect my battery yesterday to install my 3G alternator, and for the first three days or so while the computer relearns, the car runs like crap. Idles stick, idles surge, the whole nine yards. Once it settles in again, I'll put it on and that way I can give it a fair judgement. I don't want to blame my surging idle on the MAF, even though when I swapped it for the stocker the car calmed down. I'll let you guys know how I make out.
