The rear window in my 2000 GT convertible shattered yesterday. Does anyone have any experience in what this is going to cost? Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply. At least the money I won fishing in a bass tournament on Sat. will cover it. The window broke when my wife had the car and she felt just awful!!

They break... Also, it coulda started leaking at some point (they often do) so getting a new one will be good.

Call the Lincoln Mercury dealer and ask them who is the best trim shop in town, the one that they use for convertible top issues...

What kind of fish, how many, what was the biggest one?

ABA District 9 bass tournament. I had a limit of largemouths that weighed 14.4 lbs. with a 4.78 lunker. All told it was worth $553, most of which will go to repairing the Mustang. We were fishing the Upper Chesapeake Bay.

$204..

You should be able to replace this by yourself. I haven't looked at mine cause I haven't had to remove the headliner yet.

If its anything like the Fox bodies its a few nuts at the bottom and a zipper around the top.

It didnt' look like a Do it Yourself job for this owner. I took it to an upholstery shop recommended by my Ford dealer and paid $475. If it had been through the dealer they would have charged me $600.

Convtertible top work is almost never DIY. I would have a shop replace my rear window if it was me.

From what I understand, you can't just replace the window; it has to be the whole top, or nothing at all.

I need to do this eventually...mine leaks like crazy when the cats and dogs fall from the skies.

Should I get the cloth top (the ones that come on the Cobra's) or the vinyl ones, that come on the GTs and V6s?

The top, rear window, and headliner are all seperate components and can be replaced individually.

The vinyl is low maint and cheap. The cloth is high maint and twice as much but looks a hell of a lot better.

good job on the tourney! last one I fished I was kicking ass until my aireator went out, it happend at about the time the fish started to go off the bite so I wasnt looking in my well like I should have been. I have a 6.8 oz fish that died. it cost me the tourney.... 16.4 stringer.... 15.8 won it.

Ordie, I just did actually click that link you posted above and that is interesting. I did not realize that the piece of top below the glass was a component of the rear window assembly. I did not realize that the top color was tan up until 1998 and then called parchment after that. Very interesting stuff! And a great price also.
