Anybody have any dealings with the rear windows on a convertible? My 91 rear drivers side window is shot.... needs to pull it up by hand and set it into place with with the assistance of the switch. The motor turns and pushes it up but not enough to get it past about half way. Passanger side is a litttle better but not much.
Iam also having an issue with the power mirrors, when the switch is moved from the neutral position to either left or right that side mirror will go all the way to the right and the directional controls (out/in & up/down) are useless. Wireing is correct and i have replaced the switch twice, both times w/ used switches.
Thanks in advance.

So it goes down but not back up?
Can you hear the motor running, although it isn't raising the glass? If so your 3 white plastic bushings inside the gear housing in the motor have turned into a pile of greasy gravel.
You can fix it easily yourself buy removing the motor. Lay it on a bench and open up the gear cover, clean out all the greasy gravel (which used to be the 3 bushings) around the main triangular drive gear and replacing those 3 white plastic bushings. You can buy them at LRS, or alot of Autoparts stores. They are very cheap.
Or, you can do as I have done on a bunch of these and replace them with three 1/4"x20 nuts. They fit right in there and will last forever. Make sure you repack the gear area with grease.
It will work perfectly again and you'll never have that problem again.

Hope this helps!

I have a convertable and have replaced the plastics in these motors before using parts from my local AP store. Usually they have a section called "HELP" where you find all sorts of odd parts for barious cars, these plastic pieces included.

The 1/4 x 20 nut thing sounds like NUTS! Just joking... I'm curious how they work. I have to give them a try! Thanks for this tip.

The 1/4 x 20 nuts fit perfect and work just like the plastic bushings do. The only difference is they are bullet proof and will out last the motor itself.
I have been told that Ford used the cheap plastic bushings because they will giveway/break to prevent injury if someone accidentally closes the window on their fingers.
I say hogwash to that.
Just don't close the window on your fingers. LOL

does your window make a noise like when you use a drill and it strips in a screw or a bap bap bap bap? Then it is those plastic bushings are worn or deteriorated as explained above. Easy fix- once you remove the rear side panel the motor is held on by threw bolts and the wiring plug. I would also white lithium grease the gears, sliders, etc. while you are in there and check the slider bushings for wear.

They'll (1/4 x 20 nuts) probably last forever as long as they were not manufactured in China! They seem to get the chemistry screwed-up on almost everything these days
No direspect to the race of people, just their business practices in manufacturing... Almost everything I buy now deteriorates into dust after a year or two, especially anything plastic. Heck! my mouse coating is turning to gel as I type!!!

I'll bet those new Ford plastic replacement won't last but a few years....

BOSSMAN, let us know what you did to fix the issues.....

It funny you said that about the plastic, not sure where its made, but I just broke the entire a pillar trim off my 2011 super duty. It's a plastic piece where the handle is and the while thing broke clean out, I'm saying wtf, lol.
