Hello everyone. I already have a post about my AODE problems. I was going to try some repairs, but at 142k, I think it would be waste of money. I think I'm gonna replace it with a 4R70W wide ratio tranny with a 2500 stall 12 3/4" converter from Performance Auto and Transmission Center. Has anyone bought from these people before? At $2,150 for a new tranny ( after the heavy duty itermed. shaft and 2500 stall upgrade) It sounds like a good price. Does anyone know any other places for around that price? Any help would be great. Also, how many hours would it be to change them out?

It would have to either be a 4R70W from a V6 car or an AODE with it's internals changed to 4R70W specs, otherwise it won't bolt up to the 5.0. I think that they would take that into consideration if they know about the car it will be going in. Also, the computer will need to be reprogrammed to account for the different gear ratios in the transmission.

Do you have something like a Coleman Taylor close or maybe another nationally known transmission company? I was in the same boat you were about three years ago. My aod/e went kaput and I was going looking hard into buying a Performance Automatic or Level Ten.

I was talking with a guy that managed a Coleman Taylor. He said they could do everything the performance shops could and getter a better price on parts since they buy in bulk so I was a little leery BUT he quoted me a price with the following, Kevlar clutches I think seven or eight, mechanical diode, two inch wide overdrive band harden input shaft, shift kit, deep sump tranny pan and a crap load of other things but it has been three years ago. For a total price of 1600 that included removal and installation too and I even got a one year warranty. I haven't had a problem since.

On the stall I would highly recommend you spend a little money and get a good one Edge or Precision Industries. I have heard nothing but good things about Edge but I have a P.I. myself.
