Car is a 97 GT automatic convertible. Lately the gas gauge has been acting up. Start the car up and the guage reads high. Drive it and it stays the same. Start the car up at a later time and the gauge will read something totally different. Any idea as to the problem ?

Same here, but im getting it fixed under warranty.. I know that they check the plug on the tank, located underneath the rear end of the car.. unplug, replug.. see if that helps.. if not you might need to replace the sending unit.

So the sending unit is actually inside the gas tank ? Can there be something other than the sending unit causing the inconsistent readings ?
